Make a meaningful difference in the lives of Oakland youth. At Bioys & Girls Clubs of Oakland (BGCO), our mission is to develop our community’s youth into positive contributors to society. We provide programs and services tailored to the needs of today’s youth while complementing the efforts of families, schools, and other community-based organizations.
We aim to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to reach their full potential as goal-oriented, responsible, and productive members of society. BGCO currently serves nearly 2000 youth across three Clubhouse locations in Oakland, providing out-come driven programming in three key areas: Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles.
This position will be based at one of the following Clubhouses;
· Anna Marie Whalen Branch: 3300 High Street, Oakland, CA 94619
· Leonard J Meltzer Branch: 920 24th Street, Oakland, CA 94607
· Ossian E. Carr Branch: 8530 International Blvd., Oakland, CA 94621
Work hours for this role is as follows:
Monday-Friday: 2:30PM-7:30PM

Job Summary:
The On-Call Van Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable transportation for BGCO members to and from schools, field trips and other approved activities. This position helps ensure youth arrive safely while creating a positive and welcoming environment that reflects BGCO’s commitment to safety, respect, and excellent customer service. The On-Call Van Driver serves as a representative of BGCO when interacting with youth, families, schools, and community partners, and may also assist with transporting program supplies and equipment as needed. This is an on-call position that provides coverage for scheduled driver absences and additional transportation needs throughout the year.
Primary Responsibilities:
Youth Transportation & Safety:
· Safety transport Club members between designated schools, BGCO Clubhouses, field trips, and other approved destinations.
· Conduct pre- and post- trip vehicle inspections to ensure vehicles are safe, clean, and ready for operation.
· Ensure all youth follow vehicle safety expectations, including proper seat belt use and appropriate behavior while in transit.
· Maintain a safe, positive, and welcoming environment for all passengers.
· Follow all traffic laws, BGCO transportation policies, and emergency procedures.
Member & Family Support:
· Serve as a positive representative of BGCO when interacting with members , families, school personnel, and community partners.
· Communicate professionally with Club staff regarding transportation schedules , delays, or concerns.
· Build positive relationships with youth modeling respectful and appropriate behavior.
Vehicle & Administrative Responsibilities:
· Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, and vehicle inspection reports.
· Report on maintenance needs, safety concerns, accidents, or incidents promptly.
· Refuel vehicles as needed and maintain vehicle cleanliness.
· Assist with transporting program supplies, equipment, and donated items between BGCO locations or community partners when requested.
Team Support:
· Provide transportation coverage for scheduled driver absences, special events, and additional organizational needs.
· Participate in staff meetings and required trainings as assigned.
· Support BGCO events and other operational activities as needed.
Work Environment & Requirements:
· On-call position with variable weekday afternoon, evening, and occasional weekend hours based on organizational needs.
· Must possess a valid California Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement and maintain a clean DMV driving record.
· Current CPR and First Aid certifications required (or ability to obtain upon hire).
· Ability to safely operate a passenger van and transport youth in accordance with all applicable laws and BGCO policies.
· Ability to sit for extended periods, assist youth entering and exiting the vehicle, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
· Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
· Experience working with youth is preferred.
· Must pass a background check, fingerprint verification, and DMV record review.
