    Our ideal candidate

    The Network Engineer is responsible for the overall architecture, engineering, implementation, administration, and optimization of the infrastructure at corporate data centers, corporate office, and branch locations. This includes, but is not limited to, network routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless, and remote access. The Network Engineer proactively manages the environment for improvements and efficiencies, while executing on project deliverables. The role creates the highest quality of engineering standards and technical documentation to adequately maintain business operations. The Network Engineer identifies, communicates, and resolves issues. Where applicable, the role also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure systems are configured and consistent with industry best practices. The Network Engineer protects the confidentiality and integrity of customer data and ensures the availability of all IT services.

    A typical day might include the following

    • Responsible for the overall design and configuration of enterprise-wide network systems. Leads and participates in the development and implementation of network infrastructure solutions in the areas Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), firewalls, load balancing, data centers (on-premise, co-located, and cloud), wireless and premise distribution systems. Ensures work is technically sound and in compliance with established standards, codes and regulations, and meets business needs.
    • Develops and implements system enhancements to optimize performance by analyzing system data, trends, and operational issues.
    • Develops and communicates system engineering standards and guidelines and ensures compliance across organization.
    • Creates and maintains technical documentation detailing system requirements, design, implementation and administration procedures, and architecture standards.
    • Assesses, evaluates, and reports on new technologies to enhance the capabilities of the network. Proposes solutions to management based on current-state usage and future-state needs.
    • Leads and/or performs engineering or other system related project work. May participate in the development of effective business cases using sound cost/benefit analysis. For small to mid-size projects, may coordinate all phases of project planning and execution, including estimating resources and tasks, creating, managing and controlling project schedules and resources.
    • Identifies and plans for training needed to support current business and technical environment. Actively seeks to improve own skills and knowledge to apply to current and emerging business and technical environment.
    • Working independently, and/or with vendors and service providers, develops strategies for cloud and on-premise implementations; architects the infrastructure required to support those strategies.
    • Acts as a project lead in the design and review of infrastructure solutions to help satisfy application and business requirements; conducts capacity planning, as needed.
    • Leads, coordinates, and participates in key process improvement initiatives.
    • Coordinates and collaborates with infrastructure team members to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of organizational systems to meet business demands.
    • Collaborating with the Information Security team, establishes and implements policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure overall systems security.
    • Participates in and supports capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems, software, and storage in conjunction with infrastructure team members.
    • Implements redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of organizational data and assets.
    • Checks ticket system for work assignments; prioritizes and responds to incidents as appropriate.
    • Serves as a cornerstone for escalated server issues; provides timely response to customer escalations.
    • Plans and implements network upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches.
    • Monitors and tests system performance and provides performance statistics and reports.
    • Participates in system tests and disaster recovery planning.
    • Recommends and executes modifications to network infrastructure to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
    • Develops and maintains training materials and system documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping processes, and service records.
    • Coordinates and performs in-depth tests, including end-user acceptance.
    • Adheres to IT Change Management.
    • Provides guidance and support to team members.

    Education

    • High School Diploma Required
    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Network Security, or related field. Required

    Experience

    • 8 to 10 years of similar or related experience required and
    • 5 to 8 years of similar or related engineering experience, architecting, and designing and implementing network solutions required.
    • Nice to have: previous experience with Cisco Call Manager, Cisco Unity and Cisco UCCX

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of network routing and switching, firewalls, load balancers (local and global), and remote access.
    • Knowledge and experience with on-premise and cloud data centers, working with and managing service providers, power systems, fiber optics, and low-voltage cabling (Cat 6).
    • Knowledge and experience using and optimizing system performance tuning and monitoring tools, such as Solarwinds. Experience with TCP/IP and other network protocols and operating system configuration.
    • General knowledge of compute and storage technologies, blade systems, and directory services. Proven experience with systems planning, security principals, and general software management best practices.
    • Knowledge and experience with network or micro segmentation.
    • Knowledge and experience with service management systems (e.g., Service Now) and change management.

    Licenses and Certifications

    • CCNA - Cisco Certified Network Technician
    • CCNP - Cisco Certified Network Professional
    • and/or equivalent industry network, security, wireless, firewall, and/or load balancing certification(s). Preferred
