    SUMMARY:

    The Parent Engagement Associate identifies and recruits parents of children with mental health needs to participate in Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) Action Groups and other advocacy activities to improve Orange County’s mental health system.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Identifies parents and parent referral networks to support recruitment of participants for CBPR Action Groups and other advocacy activities to improve access to, and quality of, mental health services for children in Orange County

    Recruits parents and receives referrals of parents to participate in CBPR Action Groups and other advocacy activities to improve access to, and quality of, mental health services for children in Orange County

    Maintains database of parents and project stakeholders to support ongoing communication related to children’s mental system improvement

    Prepares and gives presentations to community-based organizations and other groups as needed to establish “aggregators” of parents that will participate in the project

    Meets all requirements for confidentiality of the management of personally identifiable information (PII) for project participants

    Communicates effectively and courteously with all contacts -- internal and external.

    Effectively engage individuals from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds

    Provides support for Children’s Cause OC’s role in being research partner for the South Orange County Intersections Initiative CBPR Policy Action Group

    Supports mission and goals of OneOC and CCOC

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Refers parents to MHSA Outreach & Engagement teams and other services as needed

    Maintains current knowledge of and complies with organizational and department policies and procedures.

    Meets all applicable safety requirements for the position and work environment including prompt injury reporting.

    Organizes workload throughout the day to meet project timelines and deadlines. Meets attendance and punctuality requirements; reports time and attendance accurately.

    Uses skill and judgment to ensure written or verbal outputs are clear, accurate, grammatical and of appropriate tone.

    Other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    High school diploma required.

    Bachelor’s degree in human services, education, science, math or related field preferred.

    At least two years of senior-level community engagement/parent engagement required.

    Excellent planning, organizing, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills.

    Demonstrates a high level of initiative and possesses the ability to work independently with confidential information.

    Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

    Experience effectively working with diverse population required

    COMPUTER & EQUIPMENT SKILLS:

    Has excellent knowledge of computer operations; uses a keyboard and calculator proficiently and with a high degree of accuracy.

    Uses Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as Internet and email programs proficiently.

    Uses database and customer relations management software.

    PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    Sits for some time at a computer station or work desk. Stands and walks throughout the day.

    Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less with or without corrective lenses and vision sufficient to use equipment and drive a car safely. Color vision required.

    Hearing and speech within normal ranges and sufficient for clear communication face to face and on the telephone.

    Lifts up to 10 pounds regularly and 25 pounds occasionally.

    Exposed to typical office environment conditions and noise levels.

    MENTAL AND REASONING REQUIREMENTS:

    Uses critical thinking skills to create documents and spreadsheets and interpret information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Able to set goals based on available information and to plan work in order to meet deadlines. Able to project likely future occurrences based on current or historic data.

    Able to formulate appropriate responses to requests for services and information from internal or external customers.

    OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    Maintains professional behavior, dress and appearance and at times may dress more casually for some parent engagement activities and events.

    Attends meetings and trainings as requested; able to attend occasional early morning and evening meetings.

    Assists with other duties as assigned on a regular or occasional basis.

    Drives personal car on business; maintains a driving record and personal car insurance in accordance with organization’s policies and provides related records periodically.

    May travel by car or air outside the area for one or several days.
