    TRANSPORTATION PRACTICE LEADER - SCHEMATIC DESIGN (3511)

     A nationally recognized full-service integrated transportation engineering and planning firm is seeking a Transportation Practice Leader – Schematic Design Group. The practice leader will have the opportunity to grow and expand the firm’s existing schematic design practice and resources. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of schematic design execution, project management, and generating | converting new business with local municipalities, counties, and the state. The practice leader will have the opportunity to gain ownership in the company and have an impact on firm operations. As the practice leader you will spearhead the effort in selecting staff for the Schematic Design Group and shaping the business development efforts for transportation projects [Roadway, Highway, Rail, Pedestrian, Multimodal].

     YOUR ROLE WITH THE COMPANY:

    · This position will report directly to the Director of Engineering.

    · Responsible for mentoring and leading a team of 20 to 50 engineering design professionals in multiple offices while maintaining a seller-doer role within the organization.

    · Responsible for all aspects of the firm's schematic design group. Project types include but are not limited to alignments and geometrics, analyses on geometrics, preparation of preliminary plant and layouts, drainage, transit, and traffic-related design projects.

    · Ensure high morale within the schematic design group, consistent quality of deliverables, customer satisfaction, and strong financial performance.

    · Responsible for meeting the Unit's goals and performance metrics, executing successful business development efforts, leading large and/or complex projects, sourcing, attracting and selecting talent, and effectively developing and mentoring staff.

     COMMUNITY INFORMATION:

    This position can be located in either Austin, Houston, San Antonio or Dallas. Preference is for this position to be located either in the corporate headquarters or the Houston office.

     BACKGROUND PROFILE:

    · BS degree in Civil Engineering.

    · TX Professional Engineering Licensure.

    · 15+ years of experience in all aspects of preliminary schematic roadway engineering design and roadway project management.

    · Experience using Microstation and GeoPak or other transportation design software packages.

    · Demonstrated leadership and experience in mentoring younger staff.

    · Demonstrated ability to identify and win work at the municipal, county and state level.

    · Strong orientation to team leadership style of management.

    · Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills with all levels of the organization.

    · Self-starter, tenacious negotiator with high energy and outstanding analytical skills.

    · Ability to travel as needed.
