SRS has an immediate opening for a Tactical Combat Casualty Care Instructor in San Diego, CA.
BACKGROUND
The mission of Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) is to prepare to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver quality health services and shape the future of military medicine through education, training, and research. The Bioskills and Simulation Training Center (BSTC) supports NMCSD’s mission by providing operationally focused training and education through the utilization of medical modeling and simulation and cadaveric tissue based training modalities. One of the primary responsibilities include providing all NMCSD medical staff with instruction and competency certification for Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC). TCCC is required for all medical personnel assigned to NMCSD and subordinate clinics. Per DoD Instruction 1322.24 – “All Service members (officer and enlisted) will receive role-based (i.e., All Service Members, Combat Lifesaver, Combat Medic/Corpsmen, and Combat Paramedic/Provider) initial entry TCCC training and certification as outlined in the Joint Trauma System’s TCCC Skills List.” All NMCSD medical staff are required to complete a Tier 3 TCCC Medical Provider (TCCC-MP) or a Tier 4 TCCC Advanced Provider (TCCC-AP) course as defined by the Joint JTS-CoTCCC.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
a) Conduct multi-disciplinary simulation and cadaveric tissue-based operational medicine training in support of the Bioskills and Simulation Training Center (BSTC) mission.
b) Contractor shall facilitate medical simulation training to include preparing, operating, trouble shooting, and routine maintenance of task trainers and human patient simulators.
c) The Contractor shall be responsible for setting up training aids, supplies, and equipment to meet training objectives. The Contractor shall communicate with the BSTC managers for restock and resupply when required to meet training mission.
d) The Contractor shall operate simulation equipment, task trainers, and computerized human patient simulators, in support of TCCC and operational medicine training objectives.
e) The Contractor shall utilize and adhere to DOD and DON approved training curriculum when applicable. All necessary approved curricula and resources for delivery of training will be provided by BSTC managers.
f) The Contractor shall always utilize TCCC curriculum and training scenarios as per BUMED Instruction 1510.25A, NEMTI TCCC Admin guide and in compliance with JTS-CoTCCC Guidelines when conducting TCCC training.
g) The Contractor shall operate and maintain simulation-related audio-video systems required for the delivery of didactic curriculum content and/or the recording of simulation based events.
h) The Contractor shall ensure proper equipment, simulators, task training devices, and required supplies are set-up prior to training events.
i) The Contractor shall follow proper procedures as promulgated by BSTC managers for the disposal of HAZMAT, sharps and soiled linens.
j) The Contractor shall utilize all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as promulgated by BSTC managers and ensure training participants utilize appropriate PPE during training events.
REQUIRMENTS
a) Military or civilian formal medical training (i.e. US Navy Corpsman, Combat Medic, Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC), Nurse, Paramedic, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with prior experience in trauma and/or military medicine, working in a primary care/first responder capacity.
b) Must meet Tier 3 TCCC-MP instructor requirements as outlined in Section 4.b and 4.c of BUMEDINST 1510.25A and Chapter 1 and Appendix 3 of the NEMTI Admin Guide – April 2020.
i. Successful completion of a BUMED approved Tier 3 TCCC-MP Instructor course or NAEMT TCCC Instructor certification validated by a certificate of completion and must have taught minimum of 4 NEMTI or 4 NAEMT approved TCCC-MP courses in last 2 years.
i. Instructor reciprocity will be granted for TCCC instructors who graduated from TCCC Instructor course at FMTB and Instructors who graduated from the Special Operations Combat Medic Course or Special Operations Independent Duty Course. Instructor qualification must be current as above with minimum of 4 TCCC MP Courses taught in last 2 years.
ii. Possess the US Navy enlisted classification 9502, US Army or US Air Force Basic Instructor Course certification or NAEMT Instructor certification with minimum of 1 year experience as NAEMT Instructor teaching TCCC MP Courses.
c) Must have instructed at least four Tier 3 TCCC-MP courses within the last two calendar years.
d) Formal training and demonstrated proficiency with performance for all skills required for Tier 4 TCCC as per Section 4 of DoD Instruction 1322.24 and JTS-CoTCCC recommended provider level skill sets. (enclosure 1)
e) Must have relevant work experience handling and managing cadaveric tissue for the purposes of instructing resuscitative procedures.
f) Must have documented formal training in simulation operations and simulation based education methodologies or two years of relevant work experience in human patient simulator operations, with no more than two year gap since most recent work history.
g) Navy 9502 Instructor Training or equivalent DOD Instructor Training or minimum of 1 year documented experience in providing instruction for Tier 3 and/or Tier 4 TCCC training curriculum.
