    OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

    We're hiring a Frontline Coordinator to manage reception and information flow for our new office in the Excelsior. You will be the first person to represent our mission of universal access to legal services and our values to anyone who walks through our door. You will be a self-starting individual capable of managing multiple tasks, and responsibilities, comfortable with proactively and independently solving problems with a professional and positive attitude. At our small and informal offices, we frequently receive individuals who have or are currently experiencing trauma, who present in a state of heightened emotional distress and may have mental health conditions. Thus, success in this position requires excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to provide focused customer service, empathize, set boundaries and de-escalate conflict. The frontline requires comfortability with technology, great typing and organizational skills. You will be supervised by the Frontline Attorney, but will also work very closely with our attorneys, paralegals, volunteers, and social workers.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Greet, direct, check-in and assist all arriving guests, clients and potential clients. Treat people who walk in with warmth, compassion and patience.
    • Work with the Frontline Attorney to appropriately triage the legal and social issues that potential clients present with. This is going to require learning the basics of several areas of law, including housing law, family law, and consumer law. 
    • Provide social service referrals when potential clients and clients have holistic needs. 
    • Use our salesforce case management system to quickly add detailed notes in the computer recording all your interactions with clients and potential clients. 
    • Answer all incoming calls to the main reception line, transfer them appropriately and provide legal referral information for people who call who aren't eligible for our services. 
    • Manage the information flow coming into the office (phone calls, mail, emails, voicemails, text messages, faxes, etc) to ensure everything is properly recorded and that the right staff member receives the information.
    • Maintain upkeep of the general reception area and copy room.
    • Assist our senior paralegals and attorneys with administrative and client contacting tasks.  Those administrative tasks will likely include scanning, copying, filing, shredding and making appointments.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Daily work schedule of 8:30-5:00 at 60 Ocean Ave SF CA 94112. 
    • Must genuinely enjoy working with members of the Excelsior community, including those experiencing trauma or who have mental health conditions. 
    • The ability to convey a welcoming and enthusiastic personality. 
    • Must be self-directed, able to work independently, and able to solve difficult problems.
    • Willing to learn legal basic concepts.
    • Flexibility and ability to design new policies and systems for increased effectiveness and capacity in our new office space. 
    • Highly functional computer and typing skills. Typing speed of 60.

    Bonus Points:

    • Fluent or highly conversant in Cantonese.
    • Lives currently or has lived before in the Excelsior neighborhood of SF 
    • Completion of an associate's or bachelor's degree in social work or similar field.
    • Experience working with low-income and vulnerable populations.
    • Experience working in a legal aid environment.
    • Experience working in a human services agency.
    • Experience working with individuals with mental illness or addiction.
    • Experience using Salesforce.

    COMPENSATION STARTS AT $55,000. THIS IS A NON-EXEMPT HOURLY POSITION.
