    OVERVIEW OF POSITION: We are looking for an exceptional Staff Accountant who is passionate about our mission to build universal access to legal services and who thrives in challenging, fast-paced, and innovative environments. The position will have primary responsibility for the full accounting function and will allow us to continue to scale quickly to make San Francisco the first city in the USA with universal access to legal services. The role will work closely with our Director of Finance to carry-out all of accounting & grant management functions of a growing, innovative organization. The staff accountant will join the team in advance of an accounting systems conversion. Excitement to work in an ever-changing environment is key.     Open Door Legal is deemed an “essential service” by the City and County of San Francisco, and our offices are open with limited staff in order to best serve the community. However, this position will be fully remote through 2020. Contingent on the ever-changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, the staff accountant will be expected to work out of Open Door Legal's Excelsior office at least 50% of the time in 2021. The role is full-time, exempt, and will report directly to the Director of Finance. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist in the monthly grant & contract billing to government agencies
    • Manage AP process including coding, data input, and issue resolution
    • Manage corporate credit card charges and reconcile to credit card statements
    • Manage cash receipt process and bank deposits
    • Prepare journal entries, income statement and balance sheet reconciliations and flux analysis at month-end close for the income and expense accounts.
    • Work cross-functionally with legal, development, and HR teams to automate accounting entries and design financial systems related to program services 
    • Assist with preparing complex estimates utilized for decision making and reporting purposes
    • Support annual audit requirements
    • Research discrepancies of financial information and/or documentation to ensure accuracy and adhering to established procedures prior to processing 
    • Support a culture that constantly pursues excellence, emphasizes strong documentation, innovation, and improved efficiency 
    • Perform other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Passion for the mission of Open Door Legal
    • A high degree of character and integrity 
    • Bachelor's/Associate's degree in Accounting or related field OR A minimum 1-2 years of multifaceted, accounting experience 
    • Advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel
    • Ability to read and effectively analyze financial statements 
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills 
    • Ability to multitask, prioritize appropriately.
    • Ability to take direction and work independently on assigned tasks 
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of people, providers and agencies.
    • Commitment to continual learning
    • The ability to interact professionally regarding confidential matters with people inside and outside the organization.

     

    BONUS POINTS:

    • Non-profit or grant/government experience 
    • CPA License or similar financial/accounting certification
    • Experience with cloud-based accounting, payroll, and CRM software
    • Budgeting and cost accounting 
    • Data analysis and systems experience

    THIS POSITION STARTS AT $65,000 ANNUALLY.
