    Job Description

    During the height of the coronavirus pandemic, a group of leading experts came together to launch the Pandemic Response Lab (PRL) which was announced by NYC’s Mayor De Blasio in August 2020. As New York City reopens, we recognize the need for fast, accurate and widespread testing. Based in the Alexandria Center for Life Science in Manhattan, PRL is a state of the art high complexity lab dedicated to processing COVID-19 tests with results within 24-48 hours.

    We are currently seeking COVID-19 testing staff to work on a temporary 3-6 month contract with a possibility of going permanent. We are hiring for ALL SHIFTS (8 hours each). MUST BE ABLE TO WORK WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS

    In this role you will work under a Licensed Clinical Lab Technologist and will be responsible for the following duties:

    • Daily testing of patient samples in all areas of the clinical laboratory according to established policies and procedures

    • Operation of computerized and automated instrumentation, quality control and maintenance, quality assurance and test results distribution

    • Picks up samples from accessioning and sorts samples into appropriate racks

    • Sorts samples and distributes them to the appropriate setup hood

    • Manages specimen library within established time frames

    • Prepares samples for processing for RNA Isolation or RT-PCR processing

    • Unpacks and stores reagents and supplies

    • Inventories and orders warehouse supply items

    • Decontaminates work areas as designated

    • Maintains work area in clean and organized condition

    • Maintains designated laboratory equipment

    • Uses various laboratory computer systems for labeling, inquiry, crediting, and resulting as needed

    • Disposes of biohazard and chemical waste

    • Discards specimens weekly

    • Ad-hoc projects as directed by Management team.

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Meet one of the following requirements:

    1. MD or DO with a current medical license¹; OR
    2. Doctoral degree in clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological science; OR
    3. Master's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical, or biological science; OR
    4. Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological; OR
    5. Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training; OR
    6. Individuals performing high complexity testing on or before April 24, 1995 with a high school diploma or equivalent with documented training may continue to perform testing only on those tests for which training was documented prior to September 1, 1997 OR

    Individual previously qualified or could have qualified as a technologist under CFR.493.1489 and CFR.493.1491 on or before February 28, 1992

    • Must possess technical competence and high integrity.

    • Strong communications skills – written, verbal, and listening.

    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
