    FULL SALARY RANGE: $41,986 - $62,978

    SUMMARY

    The Operations and IT Specialist provides vital technical support for Iowa Public Radio’s talk show team, ensuring smooth daily broadcasts from our Iowa City studio. Responsibilities include prepping and testing equipment, running the sound board during live shows, editing audio segments, and supporting field recordings and live events. This role also assists with metadata management, coordinates automation for on-air content, and helps produce audio elements like promos and underwriting spots across IPR’s News, Classical, and Studio One services.

    In addition to production duties, this position supports IPR’s broader IT infrastructure, including maintaining automation systems, administering server rooms, and ensuring reliable backups and disaster recovery plans. The specialist will also contribute to network security and performance—managing firewalls, user accounts, software updates, and monitoring for security risks. Occasional support for fundraising events and other operational needs rounds out this dynamic, hands-on role.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, broadcasting or related field or equivalent radio broadcast operations related experience to substitute for a degree.
    • 1 or more years of live broadcast experience, especially as it relates to radio, television, or live internet delivery.
    • 1 or more years of IT support, in a help desk style role or similar experience.
    • Excellent organization and documentation abilities.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Board operator or talk show production experience.
    • 1 – 3 years’ experience in:
    • Completing hardware and software maintenance (end user and server equipment) and repair through both centralized and manual processes.
    • Supporting Microsoft user services, including Active Directory/Entra/Office 365.
    • Experience with radio automation software, including RCS NexGen or Zetta.
    • Experience with RDS and Metadata services like NPR Composer 2 and AIM RAPID (or similar software).
    • Digital audio editing experience, including Adobe Audition or similar editing software.
    • Familiarity with Comrex Access and NX Audio Codecs, AoIP equipment, Audio Consoles, Audio Mixers, and other standard broadcast equipment.
