We are looking for an Ophthalmic Technician for our Testing department who shares our core values and is ready to make a meaningful impact.

    Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to perform diagnostic tests on ophthalmic/optometric patients to provide images and other data used by clinicians in their work to diagnose vision problems and apply corrective treatments/solutions.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Greet patients, verify identity, and confirm the reason for visit and testing orders.

    • Review provider orders and protocols to determine which imaging or diagnostic tests are required.

    • Perform basic ophthalmic imaging such as optical coherence tomography (OCT), visual field testing, fundus photography, and corneal topography according to clinic protocols.

    • Conduct preliminary testing including visual acuity, autorefraction, intraocular pressure measurement (e.g., iCare, non-contact tonometry), and pupil assessment when appropriate.

    • Position patients correctly at imaging devices and provide clear instructions to obtain high-quality, reliable images.

    • Calibrate and set up imaging and testing equipment at the start of the day; perform basic troubleshooting when issues arise.

    • Ensure all images and test results are properly labeled, saved, and linked to the correct patient in the electronic medical record or imaging system.

    • Review image quality, repeat tests when needed, and notify the provider of any significant or urgent findings observed during testing.

    • Maintain cleanliness and disinfection of equipment, chin rests, forehead rests, and testing areas between patients following infection control protocols.

    • Monitor patient comfort and safety during testing, assisting patients with mobility or positioning needs.

    • Coordinate the testing schedule to keep patient flow on time, coordinating with technicians, scribes, and providers.

    • Communicate effectively with providers and other staff about completed tests, pending studies, and any testing limitations.

    • Maintain adequate inventory of testing-related supplies (e.g., printer paper, chin rest paper, wipes) and report equipment or supply needs to the supervisor.

    • Participate in ongoing training to stay current on new imaging protocols, device software updates, and practice standards.

    • Experience in healthcare is preferred but not required.

    • Customer service experience is required.

    • Embrace the core values of BoozmanHof.
