    Job purpose

    The Hearing Instrument Specialist and Audiologist are responsible for providing exceptional hearing healthcare services while supporting clinic operations, patient experience, and business performance. These roles work collaboratively with Patient Care Coordinators and other team members to deliver comprehensive patient care, maintain clinic operations, and achieve organizational goals.

    While Audiologists possess additional education, training, and licensure that allow them to perform advanced audiologic services, both positions are expected to actively participate in patient care, administrative support, clinic operations, and facility management.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities (Shared)

    • Conduct hearing evaluations and assessments in accordance with applicable licensure requirements.
    • Recommend appropriate hearing solutions based on patient needs and test results.
    • Educate patients and family members regarding hearing loss, hearing aid technology, communication strategies, and treatment expectations.
    • Fit, program, verify, and adjust hearing aids and assistive listening devices.
    • Provide follow-up care, troubleshooting, maintenance, repairs, and patient support.
    • Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation.
    • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable state and federal regulations.
    • Participate in community outreach, patient retention efforts, and business development activities.
    • Support clinic performance goals through ethical patient care and service excellence.

     

    Additional Responsibilities – Audiologist Only

    • Perform comprehensive audiologic evaluations and diagnostic testing beyond the scope of Hearing Instrument Specialist practice.
    • Interpret audiometric and diagnostic findings to identify hearing and balance disorders.
    • Develop and oversee treatment plans requiring audiologic expertise.
    • Provide clinical consultation and support to Hearing Instrument Specialists and clinic staff.
    • Complete medical documentation and reports required for physicians, insurance carriers, Veterans Affairs programs, and other healthcare entities.
    • Perform duties authorized under state audiology licensure that exceed the scope of Hearing Instrument Specialist practice.
    • Maintain an active Audiology license and all licenses, registrations, permits, endorsements, and dispensing authorities required to legally evaluate, fit, program, sell, and dispense hearing aids in the states served by the Company.
    • Obtain additional state licensure and dispensing authority within required timeframes as directed by the Company.

       

      Administrative & Patient Care Coordination Responsibilities Shared responsibility with Patient Care Coordinators.

    • Assist with patient scheduling and schedule management.
    • Support appointment confirmations, recalls, and patient outreach efforts.
    • Answer incoming telephone calls and assist patients as needed.
    • Assist with patient financing, payment collection, and related documentation.
    • Support insurance verification and benefits coordination when needed.
    • Maintain complete and accurate patient records.
    • Assist with inventory management, ordering, receiving, and tracking of hearing devices and supplies.
    • Provide front-office support during staffing shortages, absences, meal periods, or high-volume periods.
    • Support clinic sales initiatives through patient education and engagement.

     

    Clinic Operations & Facility Responsibilities

    Shared responsibility of all clinic team members.

    • Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and patient-ready clinic environment.
    • Participate in daily opening and closing procedures.
    • Assist with maintenance of equipment, supplies, and inventory.
    • Monitor and report facility, safety, maintenance, and operational concerns.
    • Follow infection control, OSHA, and workplace safety requirements.
    • Assist in maintaining treatment rooms, common areas, and patient spaces.
    • Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and respectful team environment.
    • Support clinic operations outside of primary responsibilities when business needs require.

    Team Collaboration Expectations

    Our client is a team-based care model. While responsibilities may vary based on licensure and position, all clinic team members share responsibility for patient care, administrative support, clinic operations, patient satisfaction, and facility maintenance.

    Employees are expected to collaborate across functional areas and may be assigned duties consistent with their training, licensure, qualifications, and business needs.

    Qualifications Audiologist – Required

    • Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree required.
    • Active Audiology license in primary state of practice required.
    • Must possess or be eligible to obtain hearing aid dispensing authority where required by state law.
    • Additional state licensure and dispensing credentials must be obtained within 60–90 days of hire as a condition of continued employment.
    • Ability to maintain all licenses, registrations, permits, and dispensing authorities required by applicable state laws.

    Hearing Instrument Specialist – Required

    • Active Hearing Instrument Specialist/Hearing Aid Specialist license required.
    • Ability to maintain all licenses and registrations required by applicable state laws.
    • Strong patient care, communication, and relationship-building skills.
    • Experience fitting and dispensing hearing aids preferred.

    Preferred

    • 1–3 years of experience fitting and dispensing hearing aids.
    • Experience in a retail or clinical hearing healthcare setting.
    • Bilingual skills a plus.

    • May be required to travel between clinic locations, attend community events, training programs, or professional meetings as needed.
    • Works in a fast-paced environment requiring the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism and patient satisfaction.

    • Occasionally required to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 25 pounds.
    • May be required to remain stationary for extended periods while performing patient evaluations, consultations, fittings, counseling sessions, or administrative duties.
    • Ability to safely operate standard office and hearing healthcare equipment.
