    Help Students Reach Their Potential

    TX-STAR Speech Language Services collaborates with school districts throughout Texas to provide specialized educational services for students with a wide range of learning needs. We are currently seeking Orientation and Mobility Specialists for school-based assignments across Texas.

    These opportunities are well suited for professionals who are committed to helping students with visual impairments travel safely, confidently, and independently within school and community environments.

    Your Role and Responsibilities

    As an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, you will provide individualized instruction that helps students develop the skills and awareness needed to navigate their surroundings with greater independence.

    In this role, you will:

    • Deliver direct orientation and mobility instruction based on each student’s individual needs

    • Complete assessments to identify mobility skills, travel challenges, and appropriate educational supports

    • Develop measurable orientation and mobility goals for students’ Individualized Education Programs

    • Teach safe travel techniques, environmental awareness, spatial concepts, and the effective use of mobility tools

    • Monitor student growth and modify instructional approaches based on progress and assessment data

    • Coordinate with teachers, families, campus staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary team

    • Participate in ARD and IEP meetings and provide professional findings and recommendations

    • Offer consultation and training to educators, support staff, and families when appropriate

    • Prepare accurate evaluations, progress updates, service records, and other required documentation

    • Follow applicable district procedures and state and federal compliance standards

    Qualifications for This Position

    • Current certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist through ACVREP

    • Knowledge of assessment methods and instructional practices for students with visual impairments

    • Ability to create, implement, and monitor individualized orientation and mobility goals

    • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and collaborative communication skills

    • Ability to independently coordinate services and effectively manage an assigned caseload

    • Excellent organization, scheduling, recordkeeping, and time-management abilities

    • Certification as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments is preferred
