Project Manager - Sr. Transportation Engineer

Orion Engineers, PLLC is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer/Project Manager to assist our team in delivering engineering services on existing projects and pursuing new opportunities. At Orion, you will have the opportunity to continue to develop your technical skills while gaining broad exposure to project management, client service, marketing, and business development activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Working closely with a multi-disciplinary team, you will lead the development of reports and contract documents for various transportation-related infrastructure projects. This role requires understanding plan preparation, quantity calculations, technical reports, specifications, cost estimates, construction administration, and other related tasks. Activities will vary and could include:
Analyze information and data to develop design concepts.
Research design options and document findings.
Prepare and review contract plans and specifications documents
Assist in assuring the accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and completeness, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
Research code requirements.
Prepare environmental and other administrative reports required for project permits.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, establishing and building a professional network, and participating in professional societies.
Assist with or participate in the preparation of business proposals.
May be asked to participate in project site visits or field data collection on an as-needed basis.
Effectively communicate to a wide range of professionals, inside and outside the organization.
Set project timeline and monitor project deliverables
Update relevant stakeholders or team members on the project progress
Coach and support project team members with tasks you assign them
QUALIFICATIONS
8+ years experience in Phase ll design role.
Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license
Understanding of IDOT and IL Tollway standard specifications for road and bridge construction.
Experience with ProjectWise, Bentley CONNECT Edition, and/or OpenRoads Designer software
Experience developing a Special Provisions Book
Full understanding of how heavy highway contracts are written and built
Possess strong decision making and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and take the initiative to perform tasks
Valid Driver’s License
Candidates with a broad civil, transportation and traffic engineering background are recommended.
