    Job Description

    POSITION SUMMARY

    This position is responsible for implementing, administering and improving EHS programs, improving the safety culture, assisting management in injury and illness prevention, and ensuring operations are in compliance with local, state and federal environmental and safety regulations at all Ormat construction locations. This position will perform EHS inspections, audits and training for all Projects operations Will administer Ormat’s safety management system, generate reports, and perform analysis of incidents, key performance indicators, and safety statistics. This position will assist the Vice President- QEHS in support of Projects, to maintain a culture where employees at all levels understand EHS processes and are committed to maintaining a safe and environmentally compliant work environment.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Conducts safety inspections and audits of construction sites, assessing workplace environment to ensure compliance with Ormat policies and occupational safety and health standards and regulations; prepares post-inspection reports with recommendations for management, with 70% and above of the time on sites.
    • Manage and maintained Ormat Construction Safety Manual. 
    • Lead and participate in Incident Investigations focusing on solving problems and improving the business process
    • Ensure compliance with regulations and procedures by carrying out and analyzing regular facility audits.
    • Work with project management teams and filed workers to develop and implement solutions to safety related issues on project sites.
    • Plans, promotes, organizes, directs and audits EHS related activities and operations to ensure consistent execution of policies and procedures.
    • Assists project managers with regulatory interpretation, recommends safe work practices, and advises site workers on hazard identification and mitigation
    • Independently performs assignments with instruction limited to the results expected. Determines and develops an approach to solutions. Receives technical guidance only on unusual or complex problems or issues.
    • Develops and maintains constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.
    • Examines workplace equipment, such as scaffolding, fall protections, lifting devices and personal protective equipment, making sure that they meet appropriate safety regulations and are being used properly
    • Conducts research on occupational health and safety matters and prepare summary or detailed reports on findings.
    • Develop, implement, and monitor safety indicators. Maintain, post, and file OSHA 300 log.
    • Manages health and safety information in Ormat’s Safety Management System, managing incident database, performing analysis, and developing reports
    • Develops and conducts training on construction Environmental, health and safety topics
    • Interfaces with construction contractor personnel and supervision to ensure site safety rules are understood and followed. Evaluates feedback and works to identify the best solutions to problems
    • Researches and recommends safety solutions including tools, procedures, and safety equipment
    • Lead or participates in monthly safety committee meetings
    • Communicates with federal, state and local regulatory bodies
    • Attends conferences, meetings, and workshops to keep current on EHS regulations, methods, policies, and procedures, and to maintain required level of certification
    • May be required to occasionally work overtime and irregular hours
    • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally for extended periods of time

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED

    • Associated Degree in a related field, bachelor’s degree preferred
    • Must have a minimum of 5 years’ safety experience in general industry, oil and gas, or construction safety
    • OSHA 30-hour Construction required, OSHA #510 or #502 Authorized Trainer preferred
    • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) strongly desired
    • Knowledge of ThinkReliability RCA process is not required but a plus
    • Must have detailed knowledge of federal, state and local health and safety construction regulations
    • Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals
    • Must exercise independent judgment and initiative
    • Must possess acceptable technical writing, verbal, visual, and written communication skills
    • Must be able to use and acquire knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and use of the Internet
    • Must be familiar with or able to learn Safety Management System concepts, and to administer Ormat’s Safety Management System
    • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable under ORMAT’s driver safety program

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor and use repetitive motion for long periods of time
    • The ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
    • This position requires sitting 60% of the time and standing and walking 40% of the time
    • Up to 90% travel, including Nevada, Idaho, Oregon, California, Hawaii, eastern U.S. destinations, with the possibility of international travel
