SUMMARY:
The main function of a systems administrator is to install, configure, and support an organizations local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN) and Internet system or a segment of a network system. A typical systems administrator is responsible for monitoring network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides support to customers using email, telephone, and ticketing system to troubleshoot and resolve moderately complex issues.
- Takes ownership of assigned issues and continues to monitor through to resolution.
- Administers directory services to manage user access to network resources.
- Manages and generates reports on mobile devices; tracks and issues remote user access tokens.
- Maintains and troubleshoots domain name system (DNS), windows internet name service (WINS), and dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP).
- Supports web access, electronic messaging, collaboration, remote access, and terminal services.
- Supports internet information services (IIS) functionality to include maintaining and troubleshooting websites and the use of advanced options.
- Supports and troubleshoots file transfer protocol (FTP), hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP), and secure sockets layer (SSL).
- Maintains file shares on Windows Servers and Network Attached Storage (NAS); manages data migration to new servers.
- Forecasts storage requirements and facilitates archiving and electronic discovery.
- Sustains availability and security of print server queues, downloading new print drivers, and adding networked printers/copiers/scanners to directory services database.
- Monitors server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing applicable logs, and maintainingscheduled jobs.
- Plans, schedules, and executes electronic distribution of software, updates, and patches.
- Conducts performance tuning and resource optimization.
- Performs routine to more complex maintenance tasks such as server reboots and service restarts.
- Makes recommendations and maintains systems administration documentation on standards, procedures, practices, and guidelines.
SKILLS:
- Strong Windows Operating Systems knowledge.
- Proficient Active Directory (AD) account management knowledge.
- Solid Print and File services knowledge including application of permissions.
- Strong experience in Exchange administration.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Excel knowledge.
- Experience with Microsoft Visio or similar workflow products.
- Solid understanding of security practices as it relates to supported IT technologies.
- Proficient in networking fundamental and strong troubleshooting skills.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Moving toward full mastery of Systems Administration and becoming an independent problem solver and decision-maker.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- 5-7 years experience required.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or relevant field preferred.
