    PURCHASING SPECIALIST RESPONSIBILITIES

    INCLUDE:

    • Developing, leading, and executing purchasing strategies
    • Tracking and reporting key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
    • Crafting negotiation strategies and closing deals with optimal terms

    JOB BRIEF:

    As a Purchasing Specialist, you will be responsible for purchasing/sourcing goods for resale and managing vendors. The successful candidate will be able to perform strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spend, search for better deals, and find more profitable suppliers.

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Purchase commodities assigned by the manager.
    • Maintain vendor files containing relevant purchasing documentation.
    • When applicable, the buyer will contact the freight company and arrange for delivery once approval has been received from manager.
    • Periodically validate inventory levels prior to placing orders.
    • The buyer will document and evaluate all merchandise returned by the customer.
    • Develop, lead, and execute purchasing strategies
    • Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
    • Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms
    • Partner with stakeholders to ensure clear requirements documentation
    • Forecast price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power
    • Perform cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking
    • Assess, manage, and mitigate risks
    • Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers
    • Determine quantity and timing of deliveries
    • Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • 5 plus years of proven working experience as purchasing specialist, agent, or officer in the food industry
    • Extensive familiarity with sourcing and vendor management
    • Ability to negotiate with vendors & network with competitors
    • Working experience with IBM I Access Solutions (as400) is a plus
    • Ability to gather and analyze data
    • Strong leadership capabilities
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to work in a cross-functional team
    • Food safety certification is a plus
    • BS degree in supply chain management, logistics, or business administration
