Job Description

Reports to: Copywriter Team Lead, General Manager and CEO

The Copywriter Intern contributes to ONC’s mission of providing nonpartisan news, opinions, and policy solutions by completing essential tasks throughout the entire organization. This intern helps ensure content across all departments is engaging and representative of our brand voice. The Copywriter Intern is responsible for reviewing and revising content in their assigned department including, but not limited to emails, advertisements, press releases, social media content etc. They may also brainstorm and create concepts for ads and/or marketing campaigns.

This position is remote, with work primarily conducted over Zoom and Slack, so applicants must be comfortable coordinating in a remote environment and are expected to maintain a high level of communication. This intern must commit to at least the end of the Spring semester (April 30th, 2023). However, many people choose to extend their internship past the amount of time they initially committed to, provided their performance meets the required standards.

Compensation: This is not a paid position.

Responsibilities:

• Review and revise assigned department content for accuracy and quality, including spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax.
• Communicate with Copywriter Team Lead, General Manager and CEO to ensure that copy is created for content in a timely manner.
• Write, develop, and edit copy for a variety of social media platforms including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), Tik Tok, and Linkedin.
• Understand key audiences and develop targeting strategies to drive engagement in regard to ONC’s media content.
• Effectively communicate with other ONC team members (Slack, email, Zoom).

Qualifications

Requirements: The Copywriter Intern should have the following skills, education, and experience:

• This role would be particularly good for those working towards a degree in Marketing, English, Media Studies, Communications, and/or related fields
• Responsive, consistent, and effective communicator, even during conflict
• A self-starter who is willing to take initiative and complete tasks
• Ability to work remotely and on their own schedule in order to make deadlines
• Google Workspace experience preferred
• Ability to attend the weekly Organization-Wide meetings
• Ability to attend weekly Media department meetings
• Must be authorized to intern in the U.S.
