    Job Description

    Job Title: US-China Relations Intern

    Reports to: US-China Relations Team Lead and the Managing Editor

    Job Description: The US-China Relations Intern contributes to ONC’s mission of providing nonpartisan news, opinions, and policy solutions by collaborating on a team of 4-8 interns in the Core Content Department. The US-China Relations intern will analyze the US-China relationship, and the greater impact this relationship has on the US and the global community. This intern will conduct research on current policy surrounding the topic and how such policy can be revised or replaced to more effectively shape future relations between the two countries. The basis of the internship will be to work towards furthering the US-China Relations book project, with a focus on making these complex laws and policies easier to digest and understand for everyone. This intern must prioritize ONC's commitment to non-partisanship, ideological diversity, and civil debate and ensure it is evident in all published work. A content-related writing sample, no less than 3 paragraphs in length, must be submitted with the application.

    This position is remote, with work primarily conducted over Zoom and Slack, so applicants must be comfortable coordinating in a remote environment and are expected to maintain a high level of communication. This intern must commit to at least the end of the Fall semester (December 16th, 2023). However, many people choose to extend their internship past the amount of time they initially committed to, provided their performance meets the required standards.

    Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate on a team of 4-8 interns led by a Team Lead.
    • Analyze US-China Relations and how they should be addressed.
    • Conduct public policy research to contribute to the book.
    • Prioritize ONC's commitment to non-partisanship, ideological diversity, and civil debate.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Requirements: The US-China Relations Intern should have the following skills, education, and experience:

    • Interest in Foreign Policy or working towards a degree in International Relations/Global Affairs, Foreign Policy, Political Science or Comparative Politics, Economics, Writing or Creative Writing, and/or related fields
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English) are required
    • Responsive, consistent, and effective communicator, even during conflict
    • Enthusiasm for ONC’s mission and values, including a willingness to participate in polite debate with people of diverse and opposing political perspectives
    • Ability to work remotely and on their own schedule in order to make deadlines
    • Google Workspace experience preferred
    • Experience in policy research, political commentary, political science, or a related domain preferred
    • Ability to attend the weekly Organization-Wide meetings
    • Ability to attend weekly US-China Relations team meeting
    • Must be authorized to intern in the U.S.
