Job Title: Script Writing/Creative Writing Intern

Report to: Script Writing/Creative Writing Team Lead and Director of Media

Job Description:

The **** Script Writing/Creative Writing Intern will contribute to ONC’s mission of providing nonpartisan news, opinions, and policy solutions by crafting original, humorous, informative and compelling scripts for our video segments. The Script Writing/Creative Writing intern will collaborate with different core content writers to ensure that scripts cover a wide range of political topics such as environmental policies and economic issues. This intern may also have the opportunity to work with the Graphic Design Team and Director of Media by crafting headlines for advertisements. This position is ideal for someone who is excited about creative writing, the multifaceted nature of politics, and the intersection of humor and politics.

This position is remote, with work primarily conducted over Zoom and Slack, so applicants must be comfortable coordinating in a remote environment and are expected to maintain a high level of communication. This intern must commit to at least the end of the Fall semester (December 16th, 2023). However, many people choose to extend their internship past the amount of time they initially committed to, provided their performance meets the required standards.

Compensation: This is not a paid position.

Responsibilities:

• Completing deliverables assigned by Script Writing/Creative Writing Team Lead.
• Communicating and collaborating with Core Content Writers to create scripts on a wide range of political topics for our video segments.
• Writing headlines for house and external advertisements.
• Understanding key audiences and developing targeting strategies to drive engagement in regard to ONC’s media content.
• Effectively communicating with other ONC team members (Slack, Email, Zoom).

Qualifications

Requirements: The Script Writing/ Creative Writing Intern should have the following skills, education, and experience:

• Preferably majoring in Film/Video Production, Script Writing or related fields; and/or passionate about Political Script Writing or Political Humor
• Creative writing skills and ability to “think outside the box” required
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English) are required
• Responsive, consistent, and effective communicator, even during conflict
• Ability to work remotely and on their own schedule in order to make deadlines
• Google Workspace experience preferred
• Sense of humor preferred
• Ability to attend weekly company-wide meetings
• Ability to attend weekly Script Writing/Creative Writing Team meetings
• Must be authorized to intern in the U.S.
