Job Description
This multipurpose role will coordinate the inbound and outbound scheduling of freight to and from the distribution center. This role is responsible for enabling an efficient day-to-day transportation operation by building and coordinating all weekly shipments, tracking courier activity, gathering information, providing absentee coverage, and facilitating communication. From an inbound perspective, they will have the additional responsibility of scheduling inbound containers, flatbed check-in, as well as some administrative front office functions relative to assisting human resources.
Principle Responsibilities
- Build and plan weekly customer shipments (load planning) that maximize cube/weight goals
- Develop strong carrier relationships
- Assign carriers to weekly shipments based on budget/rate lane parameters
- Route, schedule, and prioritize weekly shipments based on carrier transit times and warehouse workload
- Track and trace shipments to ensure on-time deliveries
- Plan and schedule appointments for weekly MAT truck shipments (private fleet) based on budget parameters of cost utilization and driver hours
- Assist with scheduling of repairs and ensuring that all licenses, insurance records and registration renewals are current
- Update and maintain current DOT records of service of MAT drivers
- Coordinate and plan intercompany transfers in a cost efficient timely manner
- Review routing guides and ensure compliance with all customer requirements
- Monitor freight rates on all zones and work with Director of Transportation to negotiate and/or reduce freight rates
- Assist with obtaining new carriers if/when needed
- Aid in monthly review of carrier performance
- Help determine invoice discrepancies with carriers
- Front office reception, administration and support for the distribution center
- Assist the distribution center with payroll function and processing new hire packets.
