1. Job Summary:
The Outbound Shipping Specialist handles logistics and transportation operations to facilitate the efficient and cost-effective movement of goods to customers. Responsibilities include but not limited to pulling material, packaging (per specific SOP or Best Packaging Practices ensuring product preservation during shipping), determining transportation requirements to ensure safe and timely delivery of products, and load/unload shipments using pallet jack and/or forklift.
2. Duties & Responsibilities:
• Prepares and/or coordinates the preparation of documents (i.e. outbound bills of lading, invoices, weigh bills, and Shipper’s Letter of Instruction) to support the departmental efforts to process all outgoing shipments in a timely, effective manner by avoiding delivery delays.
• Maintains accurate filing systems in a readily accessible manner for all transportation documents to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Prepares international transport documentation.
• Coordinates shipment schedules and contacts carrier(s) to arrange for pick-up.
• Provides tracking updates when shipments fail to arrive at their destination on schedule and expediting services for emergency shipments.
• Packages shipments as needed/required.
• Selects appropriate shipping container / pallet and packs items to ensure safety.
• Prepares bill of lading; checks items to be shipped against work orders to ascertain that quantities, destination, and routing are correct.
• May operate dolly, pallet jack, and /or forklift in loading and unloading supplies and equipment
• Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
• Processes returns for any defective or incorrect items.
• Responsible for keeping shipping area clean and organized daily.
• Ensure that serial numbers match the product.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3. Qualifications:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and three to five years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience in parcel shipments UPS, FedEx, and DHL, and LTL Freight.
4. Skills & Competencies:
• Minimum of an intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects at once.
• Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
• Forklift certification preferred but not required.
• Operate forklift trucks or use hand trucks to move or hoist materials to delivery trucks.
• Experience with NetSuite and online shipping systems (FedEx, DHL, UPS) preferred.
5. **Physical Demands & Work Environment: **
• Ability to work at least 40 hours per week onsite.
• Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse, and computer daily
• Ability to lift and/or move at least 40 pounds.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time on a daily basis
