    SKI MAGAZINE is looking for an Assistant Editor to work closely with our team of editors and writers to help us tell the most essential stories in skiing, grow SKI'S digital and social audiences, and increase Outside+ membership signups. We're looking for an enthusiastic, thoughtful, witty, and smart editor to make their voice known and take ownership of their work AT SKI.

    PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION

    As one of three editors for SKI MAGAZINE you are responsible for the daily operations and content production at SKI, the Assistant Editor will play a key role in developing and top-editing fresh, on-brand copy and new ideas for content including:

    • Daily production of articles and packages that drive traffic and engage readers' interests with the end goal of converting members to Outside+ and telling essential stories about skiing
    • Assist with producing the top traffic-driving digital content of the year, the annual Gear Guide
    • Support the development of SKI'S Outside Learn courses, including writing and producing all copy, providing video feedback, and working with developers to ensure a positive UX Producing a minimum of 3-5 new pieces of content for our website each week.
    • Support all US SKI TEAM and Word Cup event coverage and USST partnership

    PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Conceive, plan, and execute ambitious daily content for skimag.com
    • Conceive, plan, and execute new content franchises, based on top-performing content and membership conversion
    • Create and execute big-idea packages and collections pages for web
    • Assist in monitoring, reaching, and exceeding online traffic and member conversion goals
    • Work closely with all departments including sales, marketing, development, and editorial
    • Monitor and analyze metrics to advise on decisions about site content
    • Assist with the conception and production of SKI'S education courses through Outside Learn
    • Represent SKI MAGAZINE at industry event including, but not limited to, trade shows, gear tests, events, and on assignment

    WHAT YOU BRING TO OUTSIDE INC:

    You should be a savvy digital editor with a strong story sense who understands how SKI MAGAZINE distributes our content on multiple platforms and can recognize opportunities as they emerge. You must demonstrate sound news judgment and the ability to write a compelling headline. You'll also be responsible for identifying freelance writers, overseeing their work, and assisting with managing the freelance budget. 

    You should be analytics-minded; comfortable monitoring and reporting traffic goals (via Google Analytics and Parsley) and identifying editorial opportunities for increasing traffic growth and member conversion. The Assistant Editor also maintains a working relationship with the company's engineering and product teams and is able to communicate our digital needs. This position requires a high level of collaboration with the SKI staff, creative services, and sales teams.

    Other copy editing responsibilities will be determined as needed on a daily to weekly basis. Expert ability on skis is necessary for this position. This job will also include some travel, including international.

    PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

    • At least 2+ years of experience creating content for a digital-first editorial outlet
    • Expert understanding of the latest SKI culture trends and SKI industry news
    • Strong knowledge of SEO, including how to optimize content to reach the top of Google
    • Creative headline writing should be your #1 passion after skiing
    • Ability to manage of network of freelancers and budget
    • Familiarity working with WordPress and HTML
    • Have experience with the Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop InDesign)
    • Solid understanding of SKI'S audience and editorial mission (including Outside+)
    • The ability to shift gears quickly in a daily web publishing environment
    • Proven ability to meet deadlines
    • A strong service-journalism sensibility
    • Ability to work closely with other editors and autonomously

    Entirely remote jobs that could be performed in Colorado: Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $50,800 to $63,500. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission . Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, Flexible Time Away, sick leave, and more. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors
