    Outside is looking for a multitalented fact-checker editor to join the cross-platform editorial team at Outside Magazine and Outside Online. At Outside, fact-checking is an integral part of the editorial process: our fact-checkers reengineer our writers' reporting to make sure it's fair and accurate, and often have a significant voice in the story's editing process

    This role will entail fact-checking print and digital features, packages, and news stories, as well as developing and maintaining our stable of freelance fact checkers. We hope for this person to eventually grow into overseeing our research department. They will also write and report news stories for Outside Online and Outside magazine. 

    If you're new to the outdoor world but passionate about the topics we cover, please don't hesitate to apply. The ideal candidate is someone with journalism experience at a local or national level and a passion for outdoor sports and environmental issues—or a willingness to immerse themselves in the subject matter.  

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Fact checking print and online features as well as print front-of-book stories.
    • Fact checking occasional online stories
    • Writing occasional online stories/news hits
    • Helping with research and writing on special projects and packages (digital and print)
    • Managing fact-check deadlines, budgets, and contracts for freelance fact-checkers

    WHAT YOU BRING:

    • 1-2 years of journalism experience reporting and/or fact-checking features and investigative stories at a newspaper, magazine, or digital outlet.
    • Strong writing and editing skills
    • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
    • Well-organized and ability to manage time and multiple projects

    Outside is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico but the job could be performed remotely:  Employees can expect to be paid a non-exempt hourly rate of pay between $19.00 to $22.00 per hour.  Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission . Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, Flexible Time Away,  sick leave, and more.  This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors
