Join M & M Sales & Equipment as an Outside Sales Rep | West Odessa, TX
A machine is running.
Until it isn't.
Maybe it's a cutting tool that wears out too quickly or a spindle that stops.
What happens next?
Production slows down. A job that should have taken hours starts taking days. And every minute that machine sits still costs the manufacturer money.
You could sell them another tool. Or you could figure out why it keeps happening.
That's the difference at M & M Sales & Equipment.
We're a family-owned industrial distributor supplying abrasives, cutting tools, safety supplies and accessories to manufacturers, machine shops, and some of the largest oil companies in the country.
But handing someone a product from a catalog isn't what makes us different.
Our customers come to us when they're making a new part, trying to improve an old machining process, burning through tooling too quickly or losing production time they can't afford to lose.
We go see what's happening. Then our team helps build a better solution.
That can mean selecting the tooling, testing it, programming the machine, optimizing the process, setting up the machine and dialing in the first part until the customer is ready to run.
Because our purpose is bigger than selling tooling.
We want to keep manufacturing local.
And we do that by helping our customers get more parts out the door.
We're looking for an Outside Salesperson to take ownership of our West Odessa territory so we can do more of it.
This is where you come in.

WHAT YOUR DAYS WILL LOOK LIKE
This is field sales. Not work-from-home sales. Not account management disguised as sales. And definitely not waiting around for marketing to fill your calendar.
Ideally, you'll start most mornings at our Odessa branch.
You'll check customer orders, grab materials or products you need for the day, make sure you know where you're going and why—and then get into your territory.
Some customers will be people you see regularly. Others don't know you yet.
You'll set appointments. Make spontaneous walk-ins. Prospect. Cold call. Follow up. Demonstrate products. Ride alongside manufacturer reps. Ask questions on the shop floor. Identify opportunities. Manage your pipeline. Close business. And continue growing the accounts you earn.
You'll inherit an existing book of business, but maintaining it isn't the assignment.
Growing it is.
And you won't do that by simply asking customers what they want to order. You'll learn to walk into a manufacturing environment and ask:
What are you making? What's slowing you down? How long is that tool lasting? Where are you losing production time? What would happen if we could make this process faster?
Then you'll work alongside M & M's technical team and manufacturing partners to test better solutions.
Maybe that means improving feeds and speeds. Maybe it means extending tool life. Maybe it means reducing run time, machine stops or downtime. Whatever the solution, you'll be expected to quantify it.
If you recommend a new tool or process, we want to know what the customer was doing before, what changed and what that change actually saved them.
Because we aren't interested in selling someone a more expensive widget and calling it value.
We want to prove it.

WHAT YOU BRING
You do not need to walk through our doors already knowing everything about cutting tools, CNC machining or industrial distribution. We can teach technical knowledge. What's much harder to teach is the willingness to hunt.
You should have approximately 2 –3 years of B2B field sales experience and be comfortable creating opportunities instead of waiting for them to appear.
You know how to prospect. You ask good questions. You qualify instead of chasing everything that moves. You follow up quickly. You plan your week. You keep your pipeline full. You document what you're doing. And when you say you're going to do something, you do it.
Experience with cutting tools, CNC programming, technical sales, industrial distribution, manufacturing, oil and gas or the West Texas industrial market would absolutely help. But it isn't the only path here.
If you come from another B2B outside-sales environment—or even from manufacturing with a strong desire and ability to sell—we're interested in the sales skills and behaviors underneath your résumé.
You'll also need a valid driver's license and clean driving record because you'll spend a significant amount of your time in the territory.

WHO THRIVES HERE
M & M is growing. And growing companies aren't always perfectly polished.
We're a family-owned business that has historically operated without layers of corporate infrastructure. Our leaders are hands-on. Department heads own their teams. And as we grow, we're adding more structure, stronger sales processes, new marketing resources and better lead generation. There is a lot of opportunity between where we are now and where we want to go.
West Texas can be turbulent. Companies close. Businesses get acquired. Ownership changes. Competitors are everywhere, including large national distributors with local salespeople.
The people who succeed here have urgency.
They plan.
They follow up.
They follow the sales process.
They keep enough qualified opportunities in their pipeline to consistently produce results.
And they live our values:
We before me. Work s hard. Always improving. Bring a positive attitude. Do the right thing. Be a good person.

WHERE THIS CAN GO
We want this to be more than your next sales job. We want it to be somewhere you can build a career.
M & M currently operates 2 Texas locations in Odessa, and Dallas/Fort Worth serving customers across western Texas, eastern New Mexico and throughout the country.
As the company grows, so will the opportunities inside it.
That could eventually mean becoming an application specialist, stepping into leadership or pursuing opportunities that don't exist yet.
And we'll invest in helping you get there.
You'll receive on-the-job sales training, vendor-led technical training and online technical education. M & M also supports professional development outside of the standard training path when it makes sense—from specialized classes to additional skill development.
You don't have to know everything on day one.
But you do need to want to keep getting better.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Base salary for this role is $65,000–$90,000, depending on experience. On top of your base, you'll have an uncapped growth bonus paid quarterly, with additional commission opportunities available.
Experienced, established reps may earn approximately $10,000–$15,000 in quarterly bonus, typically after they have had time to build their territory. Because this is an existing book with a growth-based incentive structure, first-year variable compensation may be significantly lower while you establish your growth baseline.
Bring in a new ideal customer that reaches $85,000 in its first 12 months? There's an additional $500 kicker.
Benefits include a 401(k) with company match, two weeks of PTO to start, nine paid holidays, health and dental insurance, and a company-paid employee HSA health-plan option. You'll also receive a company cell phone and computer, plus mileage reimbursement for territory travel.
Weekends are generally yours, outside of rare on-call situations.
There are also annual leadership summits, company events, planning offsites and opportunities throughout the year for teams and families to spend time together outside of work.
