    Overair is developing the next generation of commercial air-transportation. Our core team is hard at work bringing Butterfly, its all-electric air taxi vehicle, to market. Butterfly leverages 20 years of development and patented high efficiency VTOL technology in order provide the most compelling aircraft across the air-mobility ecosystem.

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    We are seeking an Aircraft Systems Engineer to participate in the development and certification of the Butterfly Electric Vertical Take Off and Landing aircraft. 

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Define: The Aircraft Systems Engineer will generate program level technical requirements and compliance artifacts in support of aircraft certification.  This includes development of the aircraft certification basis and associated means of compliance, supporting development of various safety analysis data, supporting development of industry standards, and development of compliance demonstration activities.  The engineer will assist with defining key certification requirements and support the associated certification activities, ultimately leading to issuance of the aircraft Type Certificate. 

    Key Activities:

    • Identify technical certification requirements for the program. 
    • Support negotiation of the aircraft certification basis with regulatory agencies
    • Identify and/or develop means of compliance
    • Support development of safety analysis data
    • Support certification compliance program planning
    • Support development of issue papers, certification plans, test procedures, reports, etc.

     

    Intrinsic:  The role will require constant flexibility and a level of comfort working in a fast-paced development environment.  The projects and assignments will vary from week to week; to operate effectively in this environment the candidate should have past experience in aircraft development and certification to draw from (e.g. small aircraft, rotorcraft, transport category aircraft).  The role will include interfacing with engineering management, our customers, certification authorities, DERs, operations, procurement, external suppliers, and fellow engineers.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Engineering or a related discipline plus at least 3 years of professional experience in aerospace product or article development (i.e. aircraft, engines, propellers, and articles); or equivalent experience/combined education.
    • Past hands-on experience supporting aircraft design and/or certification activities
    • Cross-functional domain knowledge of different technical areas of the aircraft. 
    • Familiarity with the aircraft design process, interdependencies between disciplines, and regulatory process requirements.
    • Familiarity with the ARP 4754 safety process and ARP 4761 safety analysis methods, with experience developing related analysis documents.
    • Knowledge of the historical regulations, advisory material, standards, policy, and orders pertaining to aircraft certification.
    • Familiarity with the Issue Paper process, Special Conditions, Exemptions, etc.
    • Familiarity with 14 CFR 23 amendment 64 and associated ASTM standards.
    • Familiarity with certification requirements related to environmental qualification, lightning and HIRF. 
    • Experience with certification basis, means of compliance, compliance matrices/checklists, certification plans, safety analysis, test plans, test cards, compliance reports, and other compliance artifacts.
    • Direct experience working with the FAA, FAA DERs, and/or ODA UMs. 
    • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and people skills.
