    Job Description

    TERM:    September 2022 – December 2022

    HOURS    Full time, 35 hours per week, with break for federal holidays; option for part time as necessary.

    COMPENSATION: $15.00 an hour

    EQUIPMENT    Oxfam America will provide access to Oxfam’s intranet and Outlook email and calendar systems; it is expected that the intern will provide the laptop and wifi connection.

    _COORDINATES WITH       _ USDP staff in addition to other teams in the agency as needed

    _PURPOSE OF POSITION   _ Oxfam America is a global relief and development organization working to right the wrongs of poverty, hunger, and injustice. As one of 17 members of the Oxfam International confederation, Oxfam America works with people in more than 90 countries to create long-term solutions to poverty, and campaigns for social change.

    Oxfam America’s US Domestic Program manages a number of programs, including: Good Jobs in the Gulf Coast, focused on workforce training and advocacy supporting working families in Louisiana and Mississippi; Decent Work, focused on the challenges facing low-wage workers in the US, with a particular emphasis on marginalized women workers.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    ·       Research and writing related to economic justice and racial equity in the US South

    ·       Data collection and analysis of key informant interviews  

    ·       Tracking information and measuring impact of program work; coordinating virtual events and program logistics

    ·       Monitoring the work of Oxfam America’s partners and allies within the disciplines of agriculture and food systems, environmental activism, workers’ equality, gender justice and more

    ·       Aiding Oxfam America’s virtual operations for webinars, online conferences and training sessions by providing technical support

    ·       Supporting the strategic planning process for USDP by co-creating agendas, notetaking in meetings, and participating in trainings as needed, including report back to program teams

    ·       Other support functions as needed

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    ·       The intern should be pursuing an undergraduate degree or higher;

    ·       Strong organizational, writing and communication skills;

    ·       Ability to work well with others;

    ·       Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines;

    ·       Previous administrative and research experience preferred;

    ·       Experience with southern traditions and culture

    ·       Familiarity with Outlook, Zoom and Microsoft Office products preferred

    ·       Interest in furthering knowledge about Oxfam and social, racial, and economic justice issues

    ·       High level of personal energy and commitment;

    ·       The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, a quick learner, and a team player with a strong commitment to social justice and alignment with Oxfam’s core values

    Additional Information

    HOURS AND PAY This is a 4-month paid position at $15/hr. Applicant would be available at least 20 hours/week and up to 35 hours/week.
