  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    Oxfam America is a global relief and development organization working to right the wrongs of poverty, hunger, and injustice. As one of 17 members of the Oxfam International confederation, Oxfam America works with people in more than 90 countries to create long-term solutions to poverty, and campaigns for social change.

    • Work with Director of Government Relations/Public Policy and Senior Policy Advisor to survey staff and design agenda for department staff meeting and agency-wide advocacy/government affairs staff meeting.
    • Provide desk research on topical subjects upon the request of director and advocacy department staff.
    • Attend/monitor Congressional hearings on behalf of GR/PP and other departments; collect testimony and press statements from proceedings.
    • Attend advocacy/NGO coalition meetings to take notes on the proceedings and notable occurrences.
    • Draft statements, talking points, respond to inquiries via email and help prepare briefing documents for senior staff and international program partner affiliates.

     

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Must be enrolled in an accredited university throughout the internship
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Demonstrated competence with Microsoft Office, Outlook, web-based applications and relational databases.
    • Strong administrative and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to set
    • priorities among multiple tasks, manage multiple requests and make decisions about how to handle them, take initiative, and use sound judgment.
    • Ability to analyze and solve problems and research work-related issues.
    • Ability to take responsibility for assigned tasks and to achieve intended results.
    • Ability to work as a member of a team that has multiple sites of operation and work effectively in multicultural settings, commitment to constructive engagement towards improving overall team performance.
    • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and work of Oxfam America.
