    Private Sector Department; US Food Systems Theme; Government Relations and Public Policy; Oxfam country teams and Southern Affiliates; campaign teams; other relevant staff, teams, and senior leaders of Oxfam America (OUS) and Oxfam International (OI).

    _ PURPOSE OF THE POSITION_

    To strengthen Oxfam America’s capacity to engage key US-based private sector actors involved in sourcing seafood and other high-risk supply chains through advocacy and other engagements; to lead and coordinate working with key government/NGO platforms addressing human rights abuses in seafood; to develop and drive Oxfam America’s private sector strategy for campaigns and policy work around food and agriculture, including in particular, labor issues, and other agency priorities; to raise Oxfam America’s profile as a thought and practice leader regarding corporate accountability and human rights.

    Work closely with the Senior Advisor, Private Sector Seafood to develop strategies and lead implementation of those strategies to guide Oxfam America’s corporate advocacy in the food and agricultural sectors, specifically with food and beverage companies, traders, and supermarkets.

    · Support programming related to seafood supply chains, working with partners and Oxfam’s foreign affiliates as needed.
    · Provide strategic guidance on corporate advocacy and campaigning to Oxfam campaign teams, regional offices, and partners.
    · Conduct desk research on supply chains and corporate structure.
    · Develop policy and execute a strategy for corporate advocacy in the food and agricultural sectors and ensure integration of gender equity in corporate asks.
    · Serve as a spokesperson/representative including producing online materials for social media such as blogs to raise the profile of Oxfam America’s private sector work.

    _ PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES_

    Drive Oxfam America’s private sector strategy for seafood:

    · Provide key guidance on policies for sustainable seafood purchasing for food companies and retailers to adopt as part of their policy improvement process, based on guidance from wider NGO community with Oxfam bringing the human rights, inequality and gender lens.
    · Identify best practices for investors in seafood companies by engaging investors directly and through their platforms on issues related to seafood supply chains.
    · Identify best practices for industry accountability and due diligence for decent working conditions throughout seafood supply chains by engaging industry driven platforms and coalition.

    Support the development and enforcement of policy tools so that it becomes harder for illegally caught seafood to enter the US market:

    · Complete a joint strategy for enhanced regulation and legislation on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing issues in collaboration with applicable coalitions of NGOs.
    · Incorporate a human rights lens and framework into this strategy and coalition work.
    · Support efforts to secure better enforcement of and expansion of accountability mechanisms in federal procurement policy related to seafood purchasing.
    · Actively engage with key government/NGO platforms across this strategic area (not lobbying).

    · Periodic travel will be required up to a maximum of five weeks per year.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Account management for 1-3 US based multinational food companies (retailers and food brands).
    • Represent OUS to other NGOs and NGO coalitions geared toward improving seafood sourcing and procurement standards.
    • Representing OUS within NGO coalitions working with/toward key government platforms around seafood or coordinating relevant colleagues (not lobbying).

    · Work with other Private Sector team members to fine-tune documents and other forms of guidance for a human rights due diligence (HRDD) approach to seafood sourcing.
    · Represent OUS at relevant events and multi-stakeholder initiatives re the private sector.
    · Write and present relevant reports and presentations.
    · Oversees the role of consultants related to research and report-writing, as needed.
    · Support and participate in workshops and strategy meetings at national, regional, and global levels on seafood.

    Hiring Range: $68,000- $73,000

    Candidates can work from any of the following states: MD, VA, WV, DE, NJ, NY, MA, CT, NY, ME, NH, VT, RI, DC

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION

    Certifications in related field(s), Associates Degree, some studies in pursuit of Bachelor’s Degree, or a combination of education and experience (preferably in environmental studies, public policy, business, international relations/development, or a related field).

    EXPERIENCE AND CORE COMPETENCIES

    • 3-5 years of direct experience in the above-mentioned areas of expertise, the development of policy advocacy, private sector influencing and/or supporting program development and execution in countries.
    • Knowledge of the seafood sector, including latest trends in areas such as traceability and sustainability.
    • Expertise in private sector standards and practices on seafood and labor and human rights (including Human Rights Due Diligence), including, in particular, force labor issues.
    • Experience engaging with and within NGO coalitions.

    • Experience working with colleagues/partners in different country contexts.
    • Excellent English oral and written communications skills, with an ability to write precisely and concisely.
    • Strong relationship skills, be able to liaise with companies, country colleagues and foundations.
    • Team player and motivated self-starter; able to operate with little direction and on multiple, diverse fronts simultaneously, with careful attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Interest in and ability to travel internationally.
