    Job Description

    The People and Culture Specialist  is skilled and passionate about supporting the Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition and Operations functions within the HR organization.  They will provide support in developing talent through Oxfam America’s policies and key procedures. The People and Culture Specialist will regularly contribute to and support critical activities that improves on the employee experience to make our organization a better place to work. They will need to be efficient, organized, and approachable and have a solid knowledge of various HR functions and administrative responsibilities. The Human Resources Specialist will possess the commitment, character, and skills to become part of our transformational team.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Help develop, implement, support, and review all HR department initiatives, policies, procedures, and systems
    • Support the review of job duties, creating job descriptions, assisting with job evaluations and market compensation surveys
    • Contribute to the development and evaluation of onboarding plans for employees joining the organization
    • Coordinate training and development programs and related activities
    • Participate in performance evaluation processes inclusive of manager and employee information sessions
    • Composure and confidentiality handling disciplinary and employee relations issues
    • Manage employee records (attendance, EEO data, etc.) lead the digitalization from paper files into HRIS
    • Ensure organizational compliance with all policies and legal requirements
    • Prepare and facilitate meetings designed to help employees obtain information and understand company benefits and other related incentive programs in partnership with TPA
    • Function as intermediary support for HR team members and third-party benefits administrator
    • Proactively support training and coordinate timely updates to policies and documentation of procedures
    • Demonstrates ownership mindset in being accountable for delivering solutions to address opportunities identified
    • Actively supports audits/reviews and highlights discrepancies for resolution, in collaboration with manager
    • Other duties as assigned

    REQUIRED

    • Working knowledge of national benefits and applicable laws
    • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
    • Outstanding verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
    • Aptitude for critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision making
    • Strength of character, ethics, and commitment, and reliability
    • Superior attention to detail
    • Proven track record of maintaining employee confidentiality and consistent discretion
    • Able to work under pressure with strict deadlines, ability to pivot often and be agile
    • Commitment to staying current on best practices, and the understanding of labor laws and disciplinary procedures
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, knowledge of HRIS systems and functionality
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • The ability to create reports, analyze data, and work with dashboards

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • BS/BA in business administration or relevant field
    • 5+ years of experience as an HR Specialist
    • Successful work experience as a People and Culture or Human Resources Specialist, administrator or other HR position
    • Strong working knowledge of HR functions and procedures (e.g. pay and benefits, recruitment, training, and development)
    • HR Credentials (HRCI -PHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP and CEBS professional designations) desired
    • Union experience strongly preferred
    • Project management experience desired
