    Job Description

    PURPOSE OF POSITION: Provide project coordination and support to MPR team, monitor, analyze, and share Oxfam America (OUS) media clips, and pitch media on behalf of the greater Media team as needed.

    Assist with media relations, relationship building, drafting press releases, and compiling and distributing media advisories as a member of the Corporate and Brand Media Relations team.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

    OXFAM AMERICA (OUS) MEDIA CLIP MONITORING AND REPORTING (35%)

    • Using Google News, MeltWater, Burrelles, and other media monitoring services, to gather, record, and share Oxfam America media clips with internal OUS audiences.
    • Compile quarterly and annual report of media clips.
    • Maintain a master file media tracker including all media clips. Keep updated and well organized in order to sort and select media clips by Oxfam priority level and or campaign. Circulate with internal colleagues when needed as a way to measure success of campaigns and priorities.

    MEDIA RESEARCH AND OUTREACH (35%)

    • Collaborate with Media Officers to prepare pitches, press releases, media advisories and information used to secure coverage and increase brand awareness.
    • Serve as media contact on select initiatives and provide media support to additional brand-building media projects and campaigns.
    • Conduct initial media calls as needed to gather information from news sources.
    • Serve as a support and back-up for MPR team media officers, pitching reporters and media outlets as needed.
    • As needed, create media lists and conduct media analyses for media officers. Distribute news releases, media advisories, and other materials as required to internal and external audiences.
    • As part of public information team within OUS, monitor media team-related inquiries and either respond directly or route to appropriate media officer.
    • Collaborate with Digital Engagement Department and Content team on web content and social media as needed.

    INTERNAL REPORTING (15%)

    • Produce daily internal report chronicling major news moments, events, travel, outgoing press, outgoing social media messages, new blog posts, and any other important external communications.
    • Using daily reports, create Media Week Ahead document outlining important external communications for internal audiences. Assist with feedback and fact-checking from OUS media officers.

    MPR TEAM ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT (15%)

    • Assist with daily and weekly MPR team meetings.
    • Develop and carry out orientations for new Media Relations staff, consultants, and interns. Coordinate all other work-related needs of interns.
    • Coordinate weekly Media Relations Unit meetings. Disseminate agenda, ensure accurate reporting and posting of minutes, and pursue follow up on action points as necessary.
    • Assist with and route all press inquiries and follow up as necessary with media officers.
    • Post selected media clips, press releases, and news updates on oxfamerica.org web site. Help media officers maintain Oxfam Experts (spokespeople) page.
    • Maintain all publications, subscriptions and online memberships for the Media Relations unit.
    • Create and maintain an intranet space for the MPR team, which includes all media releases, reactives, and Q&As.
    • Assist with special projects and perform other reasonably related duties.
    • Participate in Department and Unit meetings as required.
    • Coordinate information needs within the department and respond to agency information requests.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
    • One to three years of relevant work experience in communications and/or media relations.
    • Proficiency with MS Office suite, including Excel.
    • Digital and social media experience.
    • Demonstrated capacity to see jobs to completion; to set priorities among tasks; to engage in problem solving.
    • Accuracy and strong attention to detail.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work.
    • Ability to work with a team that has multiple work sites.

    Non-Exempt - DC Union D - Salary Range $46,930 - $63,350 - commensurate with specific role and experience
