    Title: Managing Editor, Thought Leadership

    Location: New York or London

    Reports to: Managing Director or Editorial Director, Thought Leadership JOB SUMMARY Managing all aspects of global research programs that engage a targeted executive audience with compelling findings, well-written publications, and innovative digital media; the right candidate will have strong business writing and editorial skills, a deep understanding of global management practices and corporate strategy, and a passion for crafting new ideas and concepts. Project and client management skills are prerequisites, as is basic knowledge of statistics and quantitative research methods; an entrepreneurial mindset and team-building skills will help. Expertise in corporate finance and/or enterprise risk management preferred.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Idea generation and intellectual leadership

    • Work with other members of the Thought Leadership team and Oxford Economics' economists to generate compelling research topics and delivery mechanisms that generate client interest and support
    • Produce proposals for potential research projects, conducting the degree of background research necessary to generate stimulating, on-brand proposals

    _Research and analysis _

    • Conduct the necessary desk research to ensure the accuracy, currency, and comprehensiveness of the information in published reports 
    • Draw on Oxford Economics' suite of data and analysis, and work collaboratively with our economists on bespoke modeling and research 
    • Identify executives and expert for interviews, conduct in-depth, on-the-record interviews 
    • Research, draft, and analyze surveys related to sponsored research projects
    • Create compelling narratives that incorporate statistical analysis and data visualizations

    _Project and client management _

    • __Oversee the execution of global research programs, drawing on economists and business development people when necessary 

    • Be the principal point of contact with clients and other key stakeholders during the course of projects

    • Find and commission top-notch writers with relevant industry or management practice knowledge

    • Edit, write or re-write material where original copy is sub-standard or incomplete

    _External representation and sales support _

    • __Work with the sales team to call on clients and develop new business 
    • Present findings at thought leadership events and client meetings 
    • Give interviews to media outlets such as television, radio or newspapers

     

    PERFORMANCE MEASURES 

    • Completion of top-quality research projects to strict deadlines 
    • Ability to execute projects independently
    • Ability to generate repeat business from satisfied clients

     

    SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES  

    Education and previous experience

    • Bachelor's degree or higher
    • Degrees in business, economics, statistics, international affairs, or journalism
    • Excellent writing, editing, quantitative analysis, presentation, client- and writer/researcher-management skills 
    • An outstanding project management track record 
    • Experience dealing with senior executives

    Personal attributes

    • Confidence and diplomatic skills to handle demanding clients and intellectually challenging topics 
    • Self-starter, with the drive to set and reach ambitious goals
    • Willingness to travel to present at client events or support business development growth
    • Team player, with ability to lead and manage people with varying skillsets
    • Entrepreneurial spirit and passion for developing new ideas and concepts
