Health Economist, Medical Devices and Health Technologies (MDHT)
PATH is a global organization that works to accelerate health equity by bringing together public institutions, businesses, social enterprises, and investors to solve the world’s most pressing health challenges. We accelerate innovation across five platforms-vaccines, drugs, diagnostics, devices, and system and service innovations-that harness our entrepreneurial insight, scientific and public health expertise, and passion for health equity. With expertise in science, health, economics, technology, advocacy, and dozens of other specialties, PATH develops and scales solutions—including vaccines, drugs, devices, diagnostics, and innovative approaches to strengthening health systems worldwide.
PATH is currently recruiting for a HEALTH ECONOMIST with experience in the design and performance of economic evaluations of health care interventions. The Health Economist will work in the Medical Devices and Health Technologies (MDHT) program to advance PATH’s global work to ensure that technologies reach those in low- and middle-income countries who need them most. The MDHT program at PATH develops, advances, and facilitates the commercialization of health technologies for low-resource settings. The Health Economist will support multiple project teams within the MDHT program and across the organization. Project teams are multidisciplinary and generally include members with technical/scientific, public health, communications, business/commercialization, and administrative support expertise.
The ideal candidate will apply their skills to a range of operational and research projects, including the economic evaluations and development of tools to advance the evidence base on the economic costs and benefits of new technologies applied to diverse health areas. The analytical work primarily requires the performance of costing and cost-effectiveness analysis using decision-analytic modeling. Disease modeling and statistical applications may also be employed. This role also requires the health economist to work in interdisciplinary teams, collaborate and manage contracts with partner organizations, and engage with policymakers at the global and country-level as well as relevant health personnel. The overarching role of the health economist is to generate and translate economic evidence to inform the country and global-level decision making. We envision the successful candidate being based in Uganda and will work with and report to a USA-based health economist who has strong experience working in low- and middle-income countries.
