    Project Name:  Communications and Information Intern      

     

    Start date:  June, 2017             

     

    End date:  September, 2017                       

      

    Estimated number of hours per week:  15-30   

     

    Location(s) of internship:  Seattle, WA

     

    Will the intern be receiving a stipend?:  No    

     

    Will the Intern travel? (local or international):  No

     

    Description of internship project:

    Communications and Information intern will work with the communications officer, Devices and Tools leaders, and one or more product development teams to synthesize information, data, and trends to create reports and inform strategic communication approaches.    

     

         

    Internship goals and learning objectives/benefit to the intern:

    The selected person will work under the direction of the communications officer and help teams that include research, product development, and commercialization activities. Intern will work alongside global health product development staff and develop impactful resources, materials, and communications strategies to help teams while further developing their own skills in information analysis and writing. Intern will have a flexible schedule.   

        

    Skills to be developed and/or expanded during internship:   

    Intern will further develop and evolve communications skills, and with communications officer, learn global health communications best practices, strategies, and approaches.   

      

    Proposed activities:    

    • Perform communications research.
    • Landscape online and published global health communications and information.
    • Find and understand current trends and approaches and synthesize for team.
    • Organize existing communication assets, such as graphics, photos, or presentations.
    • Develop and create data-based strategic recommendations and communications plans.
    • Produce reports and presentations based on research or project team needs.
    • Other duties as assigned.

      

    Learning outcomes (how the Intern’s performance will be evaluated):  

    • Regular meetings with internship manager to review progress and receive feedback and direction.
    • Feedback from stakeholders and team members.
    • Completion of projects such as reports.

     

    Required skills and experience:

    • Current enrollment in a graduate program in communications, media, information science, library science, journalism, or marketing or similar.
    • Experience with in-depth research projects.
    • Experience writing reports and presentations.
    • Experience producing complex strategic or communications plans.
    • Organizational skills: ability to coordinate multiple projects, priorities, and tasks.  
    • Ability to work effectively in a team-based, matrix-structured environment.
    • Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.
    • High-level ability to use MS Office Suite, especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • Detail oriented.
