    PATH has been working in support of the Zambia Ministry of Health since 2004. The Zambia Country Program portfolio includes projects across priority health programs such as malaria, nutrition and immunization as well as policy and advocacy with funding from USAID and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. With a staff compliment of over 100, the PATH Zambia office is fast growing and the second largest office in Africa.

     

    PATH is leading a vibrant consortium of Zambian and international organizations that will collaborate closely with Zambia’s MoH, the NTB, the private sector, and other partners to support the eradication of TB in Zambia.  Funded by USAID and focusing on six (Copperbelt, Central, Muchinga, Northern, North-Western and Luapula) of Zambia’s 10 provinces, the five-year Eradicate TB contract aims to increase the number of individuals screened for TB by 50% and increase the TB treatment success rate to 85% in targeted provinces. The four key tasks of Eradicate TB are to:

     

    • Pursue high-quality DOTS expansion and enhancement.
    • Address TB/HIV, MDR-TB, and the needs of poor and vulnerable populations in six provinces.
    • Engage all categories of care providers.
    • Enable and promote research.

     

     

     

    PATH is seeking a TB TECHNICAL ADVISOR to work closely with the MoH and the National TB program to support programming leading towards the eradication of TB. This position will sit within the National TB Program (NTP) in Lusaka and will report to the NTLP manager at MoH and the Deputy Chief of Party at PATH. 

     

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist the NTP team to implement clear, innovative approaches and models for implementing active case finding and treatment, DR-TB programmatic management, pediatric TB management, and HIV/TB integration that are technically sound, evidence-based build on current strategies and existing community-based programs.
    • Provide technical assistance to the National TB Program team to ensure close coordination and mentoring of TB control activities, to meet NTL objectives.
    • Support the NTLP to strengthen capacity of field teams by providing mentoring, technical assistance, and feedback to the provincial, district, and facility TB staff to ensure delivery of high-quality accessible TB services.
    • Coordinate with NTLP Manager to align technical support with identified site needs and NTLP operational plans down to the facility level.
    • Participate in training and mentoring TB service providers to build capacity and skills in high-quality TB service delivery.
    • Collaborate with other M&E and technical staff to interpret data and adjust implementation strategies accordingly to maximize impact.
    • Support the design and implementation of context-appropriate solutions to increase drug-sensitive and drug-resistant case finding, diagnosis, and treatment.
    • Help raise the profile of TB as a significant health issue in Zambia in order to increase political commitment and promote resource mobilization.
    • Contribute in national level technical forums and networks, as well as share and learn best practices in order to improve the TB program.
    • Support dissemination of standards of care for susceptible TB, DR-TB, TB-HIV, and pediatric TB case detection, diagnosis, and treatment to health facilities.
    • Provide technical assistance and collaborate with the NTLP to develop impactful case finding strategies and activities.
    • Contribute to drafting, editing and proofreading of technical materials and reports for the national TB program

     

    Required Skills Required Experience

     

    • MD, and/or Master’s degree in Pediatric and Child health or Internal Medicine or Public Health with at least five (05) years of relevant TB control experience.
    • Ability to conduct trainings and build capacity in TB control, including DOTS, MDR-TB, and management of HIV-TB co-infection in civilian and prison populations.
    • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and maintain schedules for deliverables with excellent attention to details.
    • Exemplary interpersonal skills to facilitate relations with the Government and local partners.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Excellent report writing skills.
    • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.
    • Excellent organizational, planning, negotiating and problem-solving skills.
    • Familiarity working with international organizations is preferred.

     

    Must have legal authorization to work in Zambia.
