    PATH's Malaria, Neglected Tropical Diseases program is a leader in the effort to end malaria illnesses and deaths, refines and develops tools and approaches, invests in national programs, and builds data to empower national governments to pursue malaria elimination. In close collaboration with PATH's Digital Health teams, we work directly with national governments in low and middle-income countries to select, adapt and scale appropriate Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for long term use in their country to address health challenges specific to malaria. Our services span the entire software development lifecycle from supporting analysis of digital health needs to the deployment and long-term use of those technologies. The PATH team coordinates closely with government ministries of health, the ICT sector, other global health NGOs and donors to improve the governance, design, development, acquisition, implementation, and sustainability of digital health technologies and approaches to support our malaria control efforts.

     

    PATH seeks a Project Director for the USAID-funded Reaching every at-risk community and household with malaria services (REACH Malaria) global project. The purpose of the anticipated contract is to provide implementation support services and technical assistance to countries to accelerate progress in comprehensive delivery of facility and community-based malaria services, including malaria case management, prevention of malaria in pregnancy (MiP), seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), health systems strengthening, data collection and use for service delivery, and other malaria prevention interventions.

     

    The Project Director is considered key personnel and must meet or exceed the required qualifications listed below. This position will be responsible for reporting to and meeting with the USAID designated Contracting Officer (CO) and Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR), as well as provide vision, direction, leadership, and management to the award.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Serving as team leader, charged with developing and executing the overall project strategy, work plan, and achievement of results.
    • Direct and monitor implementation of activities within the work plan, ensuring that activities are performed to a high professional standard, effectively implemented, and fulfill USAID and PATH requirements.
    • Provide management leadership (programmatic, financial, and administrative) for the project ensuring full alignment with national and international standards and USAID requirements.
    • Provide technical supervision for all aspects of contract work, including consultant and subcontractor identification and management.
    • Represent PATH and build and maintain excellent, productive relationships with USAID, project partners, ministries of health and other government stakeholders, and other relevant actors.
    • Serve as the project representative responsible for all issues, concerns, or problems and liaise with USAID personnel, including the COR and their team, to support project implementation and respond to all questions, concerns, and comments.
    • Ensure timely and complete submission of all performance reports and responses to USAID requests for performance, success stories, and financial information.
    • Provide vision, overall leadership, and guidance to the project staff.
    • Guide the learning agenda for the project, use lessons learned to modify project approaches and strategies, and disseminate findings.
    • Ensure compliance with all USAID, PATH, and project-specific policies.
    • Liaise across the PATH Malaria portfolio to ensure efficiencies in implementing USAID REACH project.

    Required Skills Required Experience

     

     

    • Minimum of a master's degree in public health, social sciences, development, or related field.
    • At least 10 years of experience managing international projects related to infectious diseases, preferably malaria, collaborating closely with National Malaria Control Programs and other government and civil society stakeholders in PMI countries. 
    • Demonstrated capacity to operate within the malaria international community and function as a leader on matters of malaria control and prevention.
    • Demonstrated management, leadership, mentorship, decision making, and interpersonal skills.
    • The candidate is expected to have significant experience with the planning, design, and execution of global technical assistance. 
    • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain effective working relations with senior government personnel, international organizations, NGO partners, host country governments, and U.S. government agencies.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with partners to achieve results.
    • Demonstrated ability in leading geographically dispersed teams.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. Government or international development organization policies and procedures as they relate to international development.
    • Full professional proficiency in English, with excellent oral and written communications skills required. 
    • Ability to interact professionally in French and/or Portuguese an advantage.
    • Available to travel nationally and internationally up to 25%.

Currently, most of PATH’s US based positions are temporarily 100% remote, within commuting distance to our PATH offices. When PATH transitions more broadly to in-person work, we will operate with a hybrid workplace model. Hybrid employees must reside within commuting distance to one of our PATH offices.
