    Organization Description

PAVE Academy Charter School is a public charter school in Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY. PAVE provides a K-8 experience that lays the foundation for a productive and choice-filled life. We build our students brick by brick, equipping them with the academic, social, and emotional skills that they need to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, overcomers and leaders in their communities.

PAVE educates 490 Kindergarten – 8th-grade scholars each school year.  Across our student population, 82 percent of our students are eligible for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program (FRLP); 17 percent receive special education services, and 10 percent are English Language Learners (ELL).

    Opportunity Summary

Do you have a skill you would like to teach to elementary or middle school students in an after school program? PAVE Academy Charter School is looking for dedicated After-School Activity Specialists to do just that. Our mission is to create a safe space during a challenging time of day, a space where students are happy, healthy, and challenged to improve their lives academically and holistically. The time also serves to strengthen our school community, creating memorable, joyful experiences to share with the school, students' families, and more.

Our programming is organized into two blocks. Students each have a homeroom where they complete homework, read, have snacks, and do team-building activities. The other half of their time is spent in enrichment courses.

Your primary responsibility is to lead one sixty-minute enrichment course daily. The other half of the time, you will support students with homework help, have time to plan for your enrichment course, and assist with dismissal (the last fifteen minutes). You may be asked to help the Program Director with minor administrative tasks.

You will need to select an enrichment topic that you are passionate about. This could be related to a core academic subject, athletics, art, music, games (like chess), social change/community citizenship, etc. In your application, you will suggest a capstone project that your course will center on. It could be a mural, a musical performance, or a science fair – the possibilities are endless as long as it is something you are passionate about and skilled enough to guide students towards.

Programming runs Monday through Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 and Friday from 12:30 to 2:30. It includes all instructional days as outlined in the PAVE calendar. There will be one or two paid training workshops/retreats with time and dates TBD.
