    ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

    PAVE Academy Charter School is a public charter school in Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY that prepares Kindergarten to 8th-grade students to thrive in competitive high schools and four-year colleges. PAVE provides its students with a rigorous academic program and a community built on the organization's core values of Perseverance, Achievement, Vibrance, and Excellent Character (PAVE). 

    Founded in 2008, PAVE's college preparatory school model prepares students to gain access to the competitive high schools that will place them on a path of expanded opportunities, and empower them to access lives of choice. PAVE educates 490 Kindergarten – 8th-grade scholars each school year. Across our student population, 87 percent of our students are eligible for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program (FRLP); 23 percent are students with special needs, and 10 percent are English Language Learners (ELL). 

    OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY

    PAVE Red Hook seeks an Elementary School Music teacher. In addition, the Music Teacher may serve as a small group academic specialist working with students who will benefit from a pull-out or push-in model. The Music Teacher will report directly to the Principal.

    • Embody, advocate and operationalize the mission, vision, and strategic direction of PAVE
    • Create and sustain a positive and highly structured school culture of high academic and behavioral expectations
    • Develop and implement a research-based curriculum to meet or exceed academic standards
    • Assume responsibility for the academic progress of students with a high sense of urgency and ownership towards quantifiable results
    • Use assessments and data to inform instructional practices
    • Utilize IEPs to adapt instruction to reach the needs of students with disabilities in an inclusion setting
    • Plan and execute lessons aligned to the common core standards for Arts
    • Maintain strong, professional relationships with colleagues in an environment where listening, critical thought, respectful debate, and compromise is welcomed and essential
    • Commit to continued professional growth and active participation in PAVE professional development
    • Ensure all students engage their voice and posture well when speaking and presenting
    • Work with staff to codify and disseminate cheers, songs, and other culture building exercises
    • Complete all lesson plans, progress reports, report cards, and administrative functions with care and timeliness
    • Perform duties as deemed necessary by the Principal

    • Previous experience as a theater instructor preferred
    • Bachelor's Degree (required), Master's Degree (preferred)
    • Experience teaching in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred
    • New York Teaching Certificate or Equivalent
