    PBS Engineering and Environmental Inc. (PBS) is a regionally distinguished and growing engineering and environmental consulting firm in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Founded in 1982, our 240-plus person firm has a history of successfully serving major clients throughout the Pacific Northwest.

    As a leader in providing consulting engineering services in the Northwest, we are currently seeking a qualified individual for the following open position in our Portland, Oregon office:  

    STAFF ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER

    This position will involve technical work on a wide range of environmental projects including multi-media environmental compliance; stormwater management; solid and hazardous waste management; industrial wastewater compliance; spill prevention and control; design of stormwater, groundwater, wastewater, and soil treatment systems; and stormwater treatment system startup and operation. As a staff environmental engineer, you will work with project managers, engineers, geologists and scientists to develop solutions for our clients and deliver exceptional projects.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

    • Field collection of environmental samples (water, stormwater, soil, air) for monitoring and design;
    • Inspection of private, municipal, and construction sites for environmental compliance;
    • Routine regulatory reporting related to stormwater, wastewater, solid/hazardous waste, and air permit compliance;
    • Assisting with stormwater solutions for private and municipal clients;
    • Preparing multi-media environmental management plans (SWPCP/SWPPP, SPCC, ASPP, Solid Waste Operations, etc.);
    • Assisting in the evaluation, design and permitting of environmental projects including:  
      • Environmental compliance
      • Evaluating remediation technologies
      • Preparing engineering calculations and assumptions;
      • Presenting technical recommendations through engineering reports and figures;
      • Preparing permit application packages;
    • Assisting with engineering design drawings, technical specifications, and cost estimates; 
    • Field oversight of construction projects related to environmental systems;
    • Supporting environmental investigation and remediation project teams;
    • Representing PBS in a safe and professional manner both internally and externally.

     MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Education: Bachelor of Science degree in applicable engineering discipline (civil, environmental, or chemical) from an ABET-accredited institution; a Master of Science/Engineering is a plus, but not required
    • Licensure: Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification or commitment to obtain EIT within six months of hire
    • Ability and willingness to conduct field work under variable and potentially adverse weather conditions
    • 2 – 4 years of environmental engineering or consulting experience
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office products; AutoCAD capabilities are a plus
    • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
    • Self-motivated to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks
    • Detail oriented with good interpersonal skills
    • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
