Position Description:
The PC LAN Technician role within the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is critical in supporting internal customers and IT infrastructure. This position involves daily troubleshooting, resolving hardware issues, and working as a liaison between ADOT’s IT department and other divisions. The technician will provide both onsite and remote support to ensure that all systems, servers, and devices operate efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Server & Desktop Support: Provide technical support to customers on the ADOT network, resolving computer-related issues, troubleshooting hardware problems, and implementing effective solutions.
Hardware and Software Installation: Install and configure PC hardware, software, and peripherals, supporting both warranty and non-warranty repairs.
System Monitoring & Preventive Maintenance: Monitor system reliability and availability, perform regular preventive maintenance, and assist with major hardware and software deployments.
Customer Education: Teach customers how to use PC-related software and hardware, implementing software patches, security fixes, and system modifications.
Cross-site Travel: Travel between sites (Clifton, Globe, Roosevelt, Safford, Great Peak, Superior, and occasional travel to Tucson) to resolve IT issues and perform regular support tasks.
Technical Documentation: Develop and update technical documentation, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other IT teams and assist in troubleshooting complex network-related issues.
Training & Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to new staff members on troubleshooting, setup, and installation of network-related hardware and software.
Skills & Qualifications:
Strong customer service skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical issues to non-technical users.
Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex issues.
Excellent self-organization and time management skills to balance multiple tasks and priorities.
Experience with Microsoft products, including Windows 10, Office, and Active Directory.
Networking Knowledge: Experience with DHCP, DNS, and Ethernet network topology for troubleshooting and configuring systems.
Experience with server management: Knowledge of Windows Server 2012 & 2022 and backup solutions.
Experience with imaging systems using Microsoft SCCM technology.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
Valid Arizona Driver’s License with a clean driving record (must pass MVR check).
Associate/Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 4 years in IT support or related field.
Travel Requirements:
This position requires extensive travel between various ADOT locations in the Globe/Safford area and occasional trips to Tucson, with potential overnight stays.
