PCB Applications Engineer

San Francisco, CA
Full Time

  • Responsibilities

Our client, a 30-year established provider of printed circuit board (PCB) solutions, is seeking a PCB Applications Engineer to serve as the technical liaison between their customers, internal sales team, and fabrication partners. This is a direct-hire opportunity offering long-term stability with a small, tight-knit engineering team in a growing organization.

    The Role

You'll be the technical owner of the customer order workflow — from quote review through production release. You'll review customer Gerber and ODB++ data, coordinate with both domestic and offshore fabrication facilities, manage engineering questions (EQs) end-to-end, and ensure every project's specialized requirements are clearly communicated and executed.

This role is ideal for an experienced CAM Engineer or Front-End Engineer who enjoys solving technical puzzles, thrives on cross-stakeholder coordination, and takes pride in keeping complex projects moving cleanly from start to finish.

    What You'll Do

    Customer Quotations

    • Review incoming documentation packages (Gerbers, ODB++, fab drawings) for accuracy and completeness
    • Extract design rules and complete internal quote forms
    • Identify specialized requirements and convey them to fabrication partners
    • Determine panelization needs and recommend the appropriate fabrication facility
    • Prepare fabrication drawings and supporting documentation for the project folder

    Customer Orders

    • Confirm the most current revision is released to the fabrication facility
    • Coordinate pre-production engineering and CAM workflows with fab partners
    • Communicate special project requirements: x-outs, packaging, labeling, quality documentation, Certificates of Conformance, etc.
    • Serve as the central technical point of contact, keeping Sales and Inside Sales informed throughout

    Engineering Questions (EQs)

    • Review all EQs received from fabrication facilities
    • Relay EQs to customers and own each one through to resolution
    • Maintain a clean tracking system for open EQs through production release
    • Release orders to production once EQs are resolved and communicate status to Sales
    • Maintain thorough records of all project-related communication

    DFM & Special Requirements

    • Coordinate specialized technical requirements across customer, fabrication facility, and internal teams
    • Manage deliverables such as panel array approvals and check-plots
    • Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) efforts as the bridge between customer engineers and fab capabilities

    What We're Looking For

    • Hands-on experience in PCB front-end engineering, CAM, DFM, or pre-production engineering at a PCB fabrication facility or PCB broker
    • Fluency with PCB CAM software (Genesis 2000, InCAM, Valor, CAM350, or similar)
    • Working knowledge of fabrication drawings, IPC specifications, materials, stackups, and panelization
    • Track record of writing and resolving EQs with customers
    • Comfortable communicating directly with customer engineers on technical decisions
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to track multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously
    • Self-directed; comfortable working in a small, distributed team without close oversight

    Nice to Have

    • Experience coordinating with offshore (Asia-based) fabrication partners
    • Multi-fab exposure across different PCB shops
    • Background in stackup design or impedance calculations

    Why Apply

    • Direct hire, permanent role with full benefits
    • Fully remote with full US geographic flexibility
    • Small, collaborative engineering team where your work has visible impact
    • Established 30-year company with a stable, technically engaging customer base spanning medical, aerospace, telecom, and industrial markets
    • Real ownership of customer relationships and project work — not buried in a large fab hierarchy
  • Compensation
    $88,000 per year
