    Position Mission: To provide support and backup across all camp operations to ensure a positive summer camp experience.

    POSITION AVAILABILITY

    As the Floating Counselor, you work hours between 7:00am to 11:00pm on a typical day and additional hours when necessary. You are also on call throughout the night in case of emergencies. The standard work week is 6 days. This position requires living at the Resident Camp in a shared housing unit.

    You will attend a mandatory two weeks of staff training at the Resident Camp prior to the start of the first summer session.

    BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

    You provide support or backup to any camp position as needed; includes cabin, program, operations, or kitchen staff for any length of time.

    You may follow a general daily schedule, but may also need to be flexible in schedule changes depending on camp need.

    You will ensure that participants are living in a safe and healthy environment at all times. This includes the physical and emotional environment.

    You will model appropriate behavior for all participants at all times.

    You will actively participate and assist in the preparation and implementation of camp, including All Camp activities, staff training, bus duty, inventory/clean-up and more.

    You believe that with the right supports and access to quality programs and experiences, all young people are able to achieve at the highest level imaginable.

    You can maintain high energy and endurance to be able to consistently provide a tremendous experience to participants over an 8-week period of time.

    You have the ability to work independently and maintain a strong dedication to partnership.

    You remain calm under duress and able to make critical decisions in a quick and logical manner to minimize risk and to ensure the safety and well-being of participants and staff.

    CERTIFICATIONS

    CPR and First Aid required (PEAK can support in attaining).

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    High School diploma / GED required.

    Previous experience working with children required (paid or volunteer experience).

    Previous experience working at a summer camp or summer recreation program preferred.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

    It is important that you be physically and mentally able to meet the challenges of navigating and working in a remote, natural resident camp setting. Summer camp jobs are seasonal and hours are irregular, including nights and weekends. It is important to have the ability to maintain a positive attitude under adverse conditions (i.e. hot weather, rainy weather, long days, campers waking you up at night, etc.). You will work outside for sustained periods of time.

    The Cabin Counselor is lives on camp property with children in a small cabin with little privacy.
