    Organizational Mission: Our mission is to bring out the limitless potential in young leaders through extraordinary experiences and nurturing relationships.

    Position Mission: To facilitate and provide a safe and encouraging atmosphere for high school campers in our Leadership Trainee program to learn and grow during the summer camp experience.

    REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS

    As the Cabin Counselor, you will report to your Village Coordinator and supervises up to eight participants.

    POSITION AVAILABILITY

    You will live at the Resident Camp in a cabin with participants during the summer.

    BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

    You will ensure that participants living in your cabin and in your Village are in a safe and healthy environment at all times. 

    You will coach teens in maintaining a strong work ethic and serving as a positive role model to younger campers and their peers. 

    You will support the placement, training and supervision of our teen campers  in their leadership roles as Leadership Trainees (LTs). 

    You are responsible for setting high expectations for participant behavior & following through with individuals (or the group) when they are not meeting expectations. 

    You will actively support our teens through goal setting and completion of  projects, events and community service at camp. 

    You will actively participate and assist in the preparation and implementation of camp, including All Camp activities, staff training, bus duty, inventory/clean-up and more.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    You believe that with the right support and access to quality programs and experiences, all young people are able to achieve at the highest level imaginable.

    You have high energy and endurance to be able to consistently provide a tremendous experience to participants over an 8-week period of time.

    You must have significant talent, skills and knowledge with group facilitation, and an ability to work independently and maintain a strong dedication to partnership.

    You remain calm under duress and able to make critical decisions in a quick and logical manner to minimize risk and to ensure the safety and well-being of participants and staff.

    CERTIFICATIONS

    CPR and First Aid certification is required (can be facilitated by PEAK)

    A valid driver’s license in the state of WI.

    Lifeguard certification (PEAK can support in attaining this)

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    High School diploma / GED required.

    You have previous experience working with children/teens (paid or volunteer experience), and previous experience working at a summer camp or summer recreation program preferred.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

    You must be physically and mentally able to meet the challenges of navigating and working in a remote, natural resident camp setting. Summer camp jobs are seasonal and hours are irregular, including nights and weekends. Employees must have the ability to maintain a positive attitude under adverse conditions (i.e. hot weather, rainy weather, long days, being woken up at night by campers, etc.). Must be able to work outside for sustained periods of time.

    The Teen Counselor is required to live on camp property with children in a cabin with little privacy.
