    CONSULTING NURSE

    Position Description

    ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION: Our mission is to bring out the limitless potential in young leaders through extraordinary experiences and nurturing relationships.

    POSITION MISSION: The Nurse Consultant provides guidance to our LVC health care team to ensure that all participants and employees receive the highest quality of health care while at camp.

    BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

    • Participate in daily consultation calls with the LVC health care team to provide guidance on camper and staff health care, answer questions, and support the maintenance of thorough medical records.

    • Review and become familiar with the organization’s Standing Treatment Orders & Health Care Policies, and make improvements to those policies as needed. The Standing Orders will already be approved by a licensed physician.

    • Provide training or guidance during the Staff Training weeks for health care staff and camp employees on daily health surveillance of participants, basic first aid, the organization’s medical policies and procedures, and risk management as it relates to health issues. 

    • Provide guidance to the Health Manager in their review of the health forms of all seasonal employees to ensure that they are complete and there is a plan for addressing and supporting ongoing medical issues.

    • Provide guidance to the health care team on questions that arise when they review the health forms of all participants to ensure that they are complete and there is a plan for addressing ongoing medical issues. 

    • Provide guidance to the health care staff on maintenance of medical supplies at the health center and first aid kits throughout camp to ensure they are suitable for the administration of healthcare for participants and employees.

    • Provide guidance to the health care staff in completing and maintaining all medical records which include, but are not limited to, medical incident reports, medication logs, and treatment logs according to the organization’s health policies and procedures, as needed.

    • Be on-call to support health care staff in conducting in-take examinations on the first day of each camp session to assess the general health of each participant.

     

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    • This position adds up to approximately 45 hours of work from late May to mid August. This position pays the equivalent of $45/hour.

    REQUIREMENTS & CERTIFICATIONS

    • AVAILABILITY: Late May to mid August 2022. This position requires daily consultation calls while camp is in session, as well as some on-call support if questions or urgent situations arise. 

    • Must be able to connect to the internet for daily video consultations.

    One of the following is required:

    • A licensed practical nurse, 

    • A licensed registered nurse.

    Additionally, you must be currently certified in one of the following:

    • CPR for the Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross)

    • CPR for Healthcare Provider (American Heart Association)

    • Or equivalent certification for age-appropriate cardiopulmonary resuscitation

    Must be currently certified in Community First Aid (American Red Cross) or equivalent.

    REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS

    • You will report to the Assistant Director of Camp Operations with additional direction from the Camp Director, as needed. 

    • You will provide guidance to the Health Manager, Health Assistant(s), and Camper Support Coordinator (mental health support).

     

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS 

    This position is a remote position and does not require on-site work.

    If on site for any visits, you may expect the following:

    • The camp environment is often hot and rainy. You must be able to work outdoors for sustained periods of time without air conditioning. 

    • Position requires standing, stooping, sitting, walking long distances in hilly terrain, and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds with or without assistance.

     

    Position requires daily availability during camp sessions, including some weekends and evenings.
