Job Description
The Versant Los Angeles Bureau is seeking a skilled Studio Operator (Freelance) to support both live and taped productions across MS NOW, CNBC, E!, and other Versant programming. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced broadcast environment, is highly adaptable, and enjoys working hands-on with studio technology and production teams.
Key Responsibilities
Studio & Technical Operations
· Operate robotic bureau cameras using the Sony Camera Control System
· Run studio teleprompter during live and recorded segments
· Perform video shading, lighting adjustments, and remote robotics operations
· Execute basic video router functions
· Serve as the primary point of contact between the LA studio and Versant Transmission in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, including sending technical notes (camera locations, audio sources, etc.)
· Coordinate with shows and producers regarding camera needs, timing, and live shot requirements
Production Support
· Stage manage in-studio talent and crew
· Assist ENG photographers during special shoots within the studio space, which may include:
o Supplemental lighting
o Camera setup
o Gear transport
o Basic handheld camera operation
· Apply familiarity with ENG field techniques and equipment when needed
Qualifications
Qualifications
Education & Experience
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
· 1+ years of experience in a live broadcast environment desired
Technical Skills
· Proficiency with PC applications including Word, Excel, and Slack
· Strong troubleshooting abilities, especially under tight deadlines and high-pressure situations
Professional Skills
· Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
· Ability to adapt quickly to evolving studio needs
· Strong attention to detail and situational awareness
Scheduling Requirements
· Must be flexible and available to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and other shifts as needed
