  • Responsibilities

    Job Summary

    Responsible for taking readings of each segment of the gas system to confirm that it is protected from corrosion in compliance with the federal Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements

    Responsibilities/Duties

    • Locates unprotected sections of the Company’s gas line systems
    • Locates underground gas leaks
    • Identifies corrective and preventive actions to maintain adequate cathodic protection of the Company’s gas distribution systems
    • Perform governmental compliance activities (PHMSA, State Agencies, etc.)

    Relationships

    • Responsible to the Operations Supervisor/Area Manager for fulfillment of his functions and responsibilities and authority and for their proper interpretation
    • Maintains peer level relationships
    • Establishes productive working relationships within the department
    • Maintains productive relationships with vendors, landowners, law enforcement, regulatory officials, contractors, etc.

    Qualifications, Skills and Experience

    • Minimum high school or equivalent education
    • Understands the principles of cathodic protection
    • Achieve and maintain all OQ qualifications applicable to the job classification.
    • May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties
    • Understands gas line inspection principles and procedures
    • Subject to occasional emergency callouts and must be able to work overtime
    • Uses appropriate safety equipment and follow safety procedures in performing assignments
    • Excellent driving record
    • Nace Certification Preferred

    Working Conditions

    • Job involves field measurement work, performing various tasks concurrently
    • Overtime required throughout the year
    • Moderate to high driving time required

    Safety Hazards

    • Highway driving hazards
    • Hazards from heavy lifting, climbing, slippery surfaces, pinch points, exposure from cold, hot, wet, and dry weather
    • Field hazards including isolated locations, poisonous insects, bees, wasp, snakes, and allergies to weeds
    • Exposure to chemicals, small amounts of H2S, energized electrical equipment, pressurized equipment, hydrates, trapped pressure

    Physical Demands

    • Physical ability to lift as much as 50 lbs., bend/stoop, kneel and climb stairs/ladders.
    • Ability to use hand tools and equipment, repetitive hand use such as simple grasp and twisting motion included
    • Performs other job duties as needed
