  • Responsibilities

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Evaluation, Planning, communication and administration of employee benefit programs such as retirement, medical, dental vision, life and temporary disability plans.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

    Primary contact for clients, employees, retirees and COBRA participants on benefit inquiries, plan provisions and enrollments, claim issues, life event and plan changes. 

    Oversees the completion of appropriate paperwork; oversees billing and claims issues, premium and payroll issues regarding benefits.

    Administers the annual open enrollment and new hire orientation process including the coordination and distribution of material, creation, and facilitation of presentations and ensures changes are made to all benefit materials; develops communication around plan changes, deadlines, etc.

    Responsible for all benefit related communications and materials.

    Oversees administration of contracts and other documentation concerning employee benefits.

    Resolves and discrepancies and administration issues with carriers.

    Monitors insurance market conditions and trends and makes recommendations for carrier selection, plan limits, deductible and copays.

    Maintains plan documents, summary plan descriptions, benefit guide, vendor agreements, contracts and other documents related to plan administration.

    Ensures regulatory compliance with benefit related state and federal laws in regard to ACA, HIPPA, FMLA, COBRA, etc; stays up-to-date with proposed legislation at local, state and federal levels.

    REQUIRED SKILL:

    Excellent communication and organization skills.

    Skill in the use of computer software packages such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

    Strong analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of plan designs.  Ability to understand, evaluate and make judgment on the proposals.

    Knowledge of benefit contract language.

    Knowledge and experience with health insurance and other employee benefits (dental, vision, LTD/STD, life flexible spending accounts, etc.).

    Must be able to exercise good judgement; work well under pressure and stress.

    Must be able to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and organize work assignments.

    Must have strong customer service skills, maintain a friendly demeanor at all times.

    Must maintain confidentiality of confidential matters.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    High School graduate.  Five or more year’s experience performing employee health insurance related duties; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

    Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including but not limited to ACA, COBRA, FMLA, Section 125, Medicare and Social Security.
