    JOB SUMMARY

    Potential candidates must be able to work closely with the Lead Technician, Project Manager and Network Engineer on fiber optic and wireless network equipment commissioning and integration activities. Potential candidates must be able to assist in construction, inspection, and maintenance of communication Equipment and Technology. Potential candidates must be responsible for demonstrating a sufficient aptitude for acquiring the skills and knowledge involved in the competent performance of the tasks relating to communications equipment installation and troubleshooting activities.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Conduct site acceptance procedures

    • Order and maintain inventory stock supplies

    • Cleans, maintains, and stocks vehicles and equipment in order to be prepared to perform required duties

    • Build wireless steelwork; assemble for antenna hook up

    • Install antennas, coax lines, fiber trunks, DC cables; adjust antenna direction and degree angle shooting

    • Connect jumpers and running cables; connecting these and ground work to units

    • Ground steel, weatherproofing, cable grounds, unit assembly

    • Inspects existing ground or makes new ground according to the National Electrical Code (NEC) in order to protect employees, customers, and equipment from electrical shock or damage

    • Off-loading material and inventory; preparation and cleaning of sites

    • Translate diagrams, installation manuals, floor plans and methods of procedure into a properly installed and working product

    • Use a computer to configure equipment using provided documentation via web or console interface

    • Completes associated paperwork with each work order in a timely manner in order to ensure all details of the work are recorded

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Previous experience in telecommunications, electrical engineering, or other related fields
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, and attention to detail
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work well individually or as a team member
    • Manipulates connectors, fasteners, wire and use hand tools, works in areas with exposure to moderate noise levels
    • Understanding of DC and basic AC power
    • Knowledge of Wireless RF concepts 
    • Properly operates and maintains installation tools and equipment
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Computer skills should include use of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel
    • Basic Networking Skills: Ability to change IP on Computer, PING, etc.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Requires the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs.
    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces including long time periods on a ladder
    • May be required to work long and unpredictable hours, including work after normal business hours in the event physical restoration of fiber plant is needed.
    • Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather
    • Must possess valid state driver’s license
    • Repeatedly ascend and descend ladders
    • Walk through job site carrying tools, equipment, materials, etc.

     

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    • 2+ years of related experience
    • High School or equivalent; some college preferred
    • Experience in installing FTTX, Wireless Network Equipment and/or DC power equipment is a plus
    • Prior Wireless/Cell Site Installation Preferred: 2 years

     

     

     

    ADDITIONAL DESIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

    • Possesses strong telecommunications product and industry knowledge

    • Utility Telecommunications or SCADA system experience

    • Operational level knowledge and experience with Linux/Unix

    • REHL and /or Ubuntu distributions preferred

                   - One or more scripting languages:  Shell / Perl / Python

    • Operational level knowledge and experience with Windows Server Environments
    • Basic level knowledge and experience with VMWarevSphere preferred
    • Basic level knowledge and experience in administrating authentication controls (Active Directory, Radius, RSA/SecureID and TACACS+) preferred
    • 3+ years of experience using SolarWinds NPM or equivalent network Management solution
    • Certifications highly desirable:
    • Juniper: JNCIS, JNCIP and/or JNCIE (Service Provider Track Preferred)
    • Cisco: CCNA, CCNP, CCIP and/or CCIE
    • Security: CISSP, SANS and/or NERC/CIP Training
    • Project Management: CAPM, PMP, and/or ITIL
    • Outside Plant: ETA Certifications in Structured Cabling, Fiber Optics, and/or R56
