    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Are you an entrepreneurial student with the ambition to develop yourself in a truly international and creative environment?

    As a trainee/intern you will be responsible for generating insights in fragrances beyond the obvious to support the strategy of the functional fragrance category. You will be responsible for looking creatively at complicated chemistry and sensorial problems and developing innovative solutions. The incumbent will be working in the Scent Technology & Innovation department.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Build business-relevant creative and technical insights on fragrance ingredients.
    • Develop data science solutions for fragrance ingredients and formula attributes through data mining and statistical modeling of mid/large datasets.
    • Plan and lead panel sensory evaluations for validation of predicted/calculated results.
    • Share learnings across teams and support the implementation of insights into end-user solutions.
    • Summarize key insights into written reports and present results to technical teams.

    DO YOU ENJOY GENERATING INSIGHTS BEYOND THE OBVIOUS?

    Technical innovation is critical within the Flavor & Fragrance industry. As an intern in the Scent Technology & Innovation (ST&I) department you will get the chance to learn and develop yourself in areas like fragrance ingredients and mixtures thereof for consumer products, new methodologies and sensory perception, modeling and encapsulation. We prefer students with a background in physical chemistry together with data mining and/or programming skills.

    You will take part in our Talent program, a mentor will be assigned to you and a personal development plan will be compiled to support you, to discover your strengths and to help you achieving your career goals within our company. 

     

     

     

    REQUIRED SKILLS

    ESSENTIAL SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

    • 4-5 year degree in Science & Technology or Statistics (in the final year or graduated)

    • Strong statistical skills (e.g. exploratory data analysis, pattern recognition, data science or chemometrics)

    • Good programming skills (e.g. R, Phyton)

    • Understanding of design of experiments (DoE)

    • Full proficiency with the MS Office package (e.g. excel, word, powerpoint, outlook)

    • Excellent presentation, interpersonal communication and writing skills

    • Comfortable with ambiguity and has a solution-focused approach

    • Creativity, self-motivation, accuracy and results oriented mindset

    • Fluency in English is required (another language is beneficial)

    • Experience in fragrance/flavor or fast-moving consumer goods industry (preferred).

     

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

    This is a 6 month program, which includes:

    • Individual objectives / assignments

    • Formal training & coaching

    • Dedicated project.

    Interns will receive a monthly allowance. 

    In addition, for international interns we provide housing free of charge.  Upon successful completion of the internship program (graduation), interns are eligible to apply for the IFF Trainee Program.

    Candidates will have to undergo a fragrance screening test at IFF.

  • Qualifications

    BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:

    • 18 years or older.
    • Manufacturing experience, preferred.
    • Minimum of 3 year of Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) experience.
    • Experience operating clamp trucks, preferred.
    • Ability to successfully complete written and driving examination required to obtain Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) operator license.
    • Demonstrated organizational skills and detail orientation.
    • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to follow verbal or written instructions.

     

    EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

     

    SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:

    • 12-hour shifts with rotating weekends off. 
    • Must be willing and able to work overtime.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without accommodation. This includes: Walking or standing for extended periods of time, up to 12-hours; Lifting, lowering and carrying to 50 lbs.; Overhead lifting; Hearing and visual acuity and depth perception necessary to operator PIT equipment, and read computer screen or other electronic devices; Working in various temperatures & humidity levels; Working at heights to 30 feet.
