    VIKING ELECTRIC

    TRAFFIC MANAGER/FLEET MANAGER

    ADDISON, ILLINOIS

     

    As a traffic manager for Viking Electric you will be responsible for managing daily delivery activity in support of our customer service commitments. Traffic managers are challenged with the goal of maximizing driver and route productivity while managing expenses and maintaining DOT compliance.

     

    Additional job responsibilities include:

    1. Analyze and plan delivery activity on a daily basis to optimize truck routes by territory; oversee the daily delivery routing process and make adjustments as order volume, weather and other conditions change throughout the day.
    2. Hire, train and develop associates, monitor and coach performance, and conduct performance reviews.
    3. Communicate and coordinate with sales and operations managers in all Viking locations.
    4. Assist in determining driver performance standards for each route and monitoring for consistency and efficiency.
    5. Maintain compliance to all applicable local and federal DOT laws and regulations.
    6. Schedule maintenance for vehicles in fleet.
    7. Monitor and evaluate vendor performance.
    8. Identify and implement cost saving solutions.

    Required Skills

    • Strong organizational skills and able to prioritize and delegate multiple tasks
    • Strong communication, sales, and customer service skills
    • Good PC skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point) , Email & Internet Use
    • Ability to handle pressure
    • Experience/knowledge of warehouse equipment and machines
    • Ability to work across departments
    • Strong reasoning, analytical and problem solving skills
    • Knowledge of or ability to learn and enforce DOT rules and regulations
    • Ability to interpret, understand & enforce policy and procedures and relate them to others
    • Strong managerial & leadership skills, ability to motivate team and manage conflict
    • Supervisory skills-ability to manage staffing, performance review decisions, mentor and supervise development of staff
    • Must have knowledge of the transportation industry and strong working knowledge of the local delivery area and other surrounding areas.
    • Exposure to and understanding of applicable DOT laws and regulations.

    Required Experience

    • Two years supervisory experience with responsibility for CDL drivers preferred.
    • Past experience in operations and logistics in a distribution environment.
    • Knowledge of Distribution Center/Warehouse systems, processes,
    • Knowledge of electrical products, and market knowledge preferred.
