Job Summary The Morning Shift Leader is responsible for opening the store, leading morning operations, and supervising staff. This role requires strong leadership, prior coffee experience, and the ability to manage fast-paced morning rush periods. The morning Shift Leader is responsible for ensuring the team has a clear understanding of goals, expectations, products, cleanliness, new directives and guest connections during the shift. for developing a positive environment for both customers and fellow staff members, all while providing consistently fast, efficient, and friendly service to all. More importantly, a person in this role must be dedicated to the success of their growth within the company and enter the company with the intent to grow and move into larger roles.
Responsibilities
Open the store daily at 5:00 AM following all opening procedures
Lead, support, and direct staff during morning operations
Ensure high standards for beverage quality, speed, and guest satisfaction
Train and coach baristas to maintain consistency and performance
Manage cash handling, register setup, and deposit preparation
Oversee restocking, prep work, and inventory checks
Maintain cleanliness and follow all health and safety guidelines
Communicate operational updates and staffing needs to management
Resolve customer concerns with professionalism and care
Present a positive image of PJ's customers and coworkers
Requirements
Minimum 3 years of experience as a coffee shop Shift Lead or Manager
Prior specialty coffee experience (espresso/barista experience required)
Must be able to work 5:00 AM opening shifts consistently
Strong leadership and communication skills
Valid Food Manager’s Certification (required)
Reliable transportation and excellent punctuality
Ability to multitask and remain calm during peak hours
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with PJ’s Coffee or similar franchise brands
Experience training baristas and leading early-morning teams
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
